md-hive-syncRuns the start-of-task routine for an agent working in a multi-agent hive: reads memory.md, processes new inbox messages and reminds the agent to record durable facts before ending.
At the start of a task the agent reads $AGENT_DIR/memory.md for context carried over from earlier sessions, then lists and reads every file in $AGENT_DIR/inbox/ that is not already in inbox/.done/, acting on each message and moving the handled file into the done folder with mv. It reports back a summary of what it found in memory and any new inbox messages, noting anything assigned to it or relevant to the current session.
Before the conversation closes, the skill reminds the agent to append durable facts, decisions and outcomes to memory.md so a future session picks up the context. If AGENT_DIR is not set, running echo $AGENT_DIR locates the agent's directory under the hive root.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2c64612. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
ReadBashFrom allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Munder Difflin Hive Sync loads about 331 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 111 tokens; SKILL.md has 111 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.
allowed-tools: Read, BashAutomated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/md-hive-sync/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Run the mandatory hive start-of-task steps:
Read memory — Read $AGENT_DIR/memory.md for durable context from prior sessions.
Check inbox — list and read all files in $AGENT_DIR/inbox/ that are NOT in inbox/.done/. For each message:
$AGENT_DIR/inbox/.done/ with mv.Report — summarize what you found in memory and any new inbox messages. Note any tasks assigned to you or information relevant to the current session.
End-of-task reminder — before closing this conversation, append durable facts, decisions, and outcomes to $AGENT_DIR/memory.md so future-you remembers.
Run echo $AGENT_DIR if the variable is not set to locate your agent directory under the hive root.

Munder Difflin Hive Sync fits situations like: starting a new task and syncing with the multi-agent hive; checking an agent's inbox for new coordination messages; recording durable facts before ending a session so the next one has them.
Run `npx skills add HarnessMD/munder-difflin --skill md-hive-sync -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (resources/skills/md-hive-sync in HarnessMD/munder-difflin) into .claude/skills/md-hive-sync in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add HarnessMD/munder-difflin --skill md-hive-sync -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (resources/skills/md-hive-sync in HarnessMD/munder-difflin) into .agents/skills/md-hive-sync in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add HarnessMD/munder-difflin --skill md-hive-sync -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/md-hive-sync, .gemini/skills/md-hive-sync, .github/skills/md-hive-sync and .opencode/skills/md-hive-sync in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Munder Difflin Hive Sync is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: An AGENT_DIR environment variable pointing at the agent's hive directory. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Bash.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: bash)), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Munder Difflin Hive Sync is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 331 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
