What it does

Verify is an agent skill from gregluffy/HomeLabInfo. Build, run, and drive the HomeLabInfo backend to verify changes at its real surfaces (REST API, UDP DHCP listener, outgoing webhooks).

Its SKILL.md is about 420 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Backend & APIs, covering Webhooks, REST APIs and Containers. It works with Docker and .NET. The repository describes itself as: HomeLabInfo is a modern, self-hosted network discovery and visualization suite designed for homelab enthusiasts. The licence is GPL-3.0.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 07a2764. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • dotnet
    • curl

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Verify loads about 424 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 35 tokens; SKILL.md has 133 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~35
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~424

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Verifying HomeLabInfo

Build & run the backend

bash
cd backend && dotnet build
# Run from an EMPTY scratch dir — the SQLite DB is created at ./Database/homelab.db
# relative to the CWD, so this isolates you from any real dev database.
cd <scratch-dir> && ASPNETCORE_URLS=http://127.0.0.1:5177 dotnet <repo>/backend/bin/Debug/net10.0/HomeLabInfo.Api.dll
  • Auth is OFF unless AUTH_ENABLED=true env var is set, so the API is directly curl-able.
  • Migrations apply automatically on startup.

Drive the API

bash
curl http://127.0.0.1:5177/api/scanner/devices
curl -X PUT http://127.0.0.1:5177/api/settings/<Key> -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"value":"..."}'

Settings keys: EnableDhcpListening, WebhookUrl, WebhookProvider, ScanInterface, DefaultRouterIp.

DHCP listener specifics

  • The listener binds UDP 0.0.0.0:67 only while EnableDhcpListening=true; it re-reads settings every ~10s, so wait ~12s after toggling before asserting.
  • Craft and send DHCP packets to 127.0.0.1:67 with a small Python script (build the RFC 2131 layout: header, ciaddr @12, chaddr @28, 192 zero bytes, magic cookie 63 82 53 63, then options 53/12/50/60, terminator 255).
  • Check binding with netstat -ano -p UDP | grep ":67 ".

Capturing webhooks

Point WebhookUrl at a local Python HTTP server. Gotcha: .NET's PostAsJsonAsync sends Transfer-Encoding: chunked with no Content-Length — a naive rfile.read(content-length) captures an empty body; decode chunked framing.

When should I use Verify?

Verify fits situations like: tasks that involve Webhooks; tasks that involve REST APIs; tasks that involve Containers.

How do I install Verify in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add gregluffy/HomeLabInfo --skill verify -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/verify in gregluffy/HomeLabInfo) into .claude/skills/verify in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Verify in Codex?

Run `npx skills add gregluffy/HomeLabInfo --skill verify -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/verify in gregluffy/HomeLabInfo) into .agents/skills/verify in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Verify in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add gregluffy/HomeLabInfo --skill verify -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/verify, .gemini/skills/verify, .github/skills/verify and .opencode/skills/verify in your project.

What does Verify need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Verify needs the command-line tools its instructions call (dotnet and curl). Our summary lists: Python 3.

Does Verify access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Verify safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Verify use?

Verify is published under the GPL-3.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Verify use?

About 424 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Verify?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Verify: Dr Jskill (jdubois/dr-jskill, 342 stars), Spring Boot Skill (piomin/sample-spring-modulith, 144 stars), Configure Webhook Bdd Test (NVIDIA-AI-Blueprints/video-search-and-summarization, 1.9k stars) and Dlsps User (open-edge-platform/edge-ai-libraries, 168 stars).
