Preparing The Race is an agent skill from GoogleCloudPlatform/race-condition. Use when the simulator receives a validated plan from the planner and must initialize the race: parsing the plan, spawning runner agents, starting the telemetry collector, and firing the start gun. Triggered once per simulation, before the first tick.
Its SKILL.md is about 560 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 1 other file (for example `tools.py`).
The repository describes itself as: The open source multi-agent simulation from the Developer Keynote at Google Cloud Next '26. A deployable reference architecture for autonomous AI agents using Gemini and ADK. The licence is Apache-2.0.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 26efc1b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships script files (Python), which the agent can run.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Preparing The Race loads about 563 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 68 tokens; SKILL.md has 212 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Each numbered step is a separate model response. The skill toolset guards against multi-step responses with an error.
Pre-Race Progress:
- [ ] Response 1: prepare_simulation (alone)
- [ ] Response 2: spawn_runners + start_race_collector (parallel)
- [ ] Response 3: fire_start_gunWhy separate responses: prepare_simulation sets state
(simulation_ready, runner_count, simulation_id) that the other
tools read. The skill guard rejects parallel calls that would race
with that state write.
Call only prepare_simulation with the JSON plan from the planner.
The tool extracts the route, computes tick parameters, and stores
configuration in session state.
Call spawn_runners and start_race_collector together in the same
response. The two tools are independent: spawning runners and
subscribing to broadcasts have no data dependency, so they execute
simultaneously for faster startup.
Call fire_start_gun to broadcast the START_GUN event to all spawned
runner agents.
prepare_simulation(plan_json, tool_context, duration_seconds=120, tick_interval_seconds=10, total_race_hours=6.0):
Parse the plan JSON, compute max_ticks, and store simulation config
in state.spawn_runners(count, tool_context):

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Preparing The Race needs Python for the scripts in its folder. Our summary lists: Python 3.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Preparing The Race is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 563 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
