What it does

Build Artifacts is an agent skill from godatadriven/dbt-bouncer. Regenerate dbt test fixtures after dbtproject changes

Its SKILL.md is about 400 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Data & Analytics, covering Data pipelines and ETL and Test data and fixtures. It works with dbt and Python. The repository describes itself as: Configure and enforce conventions for your dbt project. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Data pipelines and ETL
  • Tasks that involve Test data and fixtures

Example prompts

  • “/build-artifacts”

Requirements

  • Python 3

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Run the build
  2. Verify the fixtures
  3. Run tests

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 07a2359. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • mise
    • python
    • dbt

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Build Artifacts loads about 399 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 18 tokens; SKILL.md has 179 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~18
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~399

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Regenerate dbt test fixtures after dbt_project changes

Build Artifacts

Regenerate test fixture files after making changes to the dbt project in dbt_project/.

When to Use

  • After modifying models, seeds, or tests in dbt_project/
  • After upgrading dbt version dependencies
  • When tests fail because fixture data is stale

Steps

1. Run the build
bash
mise run build-artifacts

This generates fixtures for dbt 1.12 and 2.0 in tests/fixtures/dbt_112/target/ and tests/fixtures/dbt_20/target/ (manifest.json, catalog.json, run_results.json). The dbt 1.7–1.11 fixtures are frozen: they stay committed for backward-compat parsing coverage but are no longer rebuilt.

Note: mise.toml uses specific dbt-duckdb version pins. Do not modify the version pins in mise.toml without understanding the compatibility matrix.

2. Verify the fixtures

Check that the generated files exist and are non-empty. catalog.json is built by introspecting the DuckDB database, so a fixture built without the preceding dbt build step silently ends up with an empty nodes object and every catalog check then passes vacuously — check the node count, not just the file size:

bash
for v in dbt_112 dbt_20; do
  python -c "import json;c=json.load(open('tests/fixtures/$v/target/catalog.json'));print('$v', len(c['nodes']), 'catalog nodes')"
done
3. Run tests
bash
mise run test

All tests should pass with the new fixtures. If tests fail, check whether the fixture schema changed in a way that requires test updates.
