What it does

Ha Integration Testing is an agent skill from FutureTense/keymaster. Workflows, conventions, and commands for writing and running async Home Assistant unit and integration tests using pytest, tox, pytest-homeassistant-custom-component, and coverage tools.

Its SKILL.md is about 520 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Testing & QA, covering Integration testing and Unit testing. It works with Home Assistant and pytest. The repository describes itself as: Home Assistant integration for managing Z-Wave enabled locks. The licence is MIT.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit b6a1ea8. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • pytest

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Ha Integration Testing loads about 522 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 52 tokens; SKILL.md has 131 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~52
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~522

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Home Assistant Integration Testing Guide for Keymaster

This skill provides patterns and commands for executing and writing tests in tests/.

Running Tests

Pytest options are configured in pyproject.toml. By default, tests filter out slow and perf markers (addopts = "-m 'not slow and not perf'").

Standard Test Execution Commands
bash
# Run all standard tests via pytest
pytest

# Run tests with verbose output
pytest -v

# Run targeted test file (use --cov-fail-under=0 so global 80% threshold
# does not fail targeted run)
pytest tests/test_coordinator.py --cov-fail-under=0

# Run a specific test function
pytest tests/test_coordinator.py::test_coordinator_update --cov-fail-under=0

# Run provider-specific tests
pytest tests/providers/ -v --cov-fail-under=0

# Run all tests including slow and perf tests
pytest -m ""

# Run test suite via tox (as run in CI)
tox -e py314
Coverage Requirements
  • Target coverage threshold is 80% (configured in pyproject.toml under [tool.coverage.report] fail_under = 80).

  • Review uncovered lines with:

    bash
    pytest --cov=custom_components/keymaster --cov-report=term-missing

Key Test Patterns & Fixtures

  1. Async Tests:

    • pytest.ini_options sets asyncio_mode = "auto". Use standard async def test_... functions.
  2. Home Assistant Fixtures:

    • Utilize hass fixture from pytest-homeassistant-custom-component.
    • Setup mock config entries via pytest_homeassistant_custom_component.common.MockConfigEntry.
  3. Coordinator & Mock Providers:

    • Use mock providers (e.g. mocking BaseLockProvider) to simulate lock state transitions, slot sync, and network disconnections.
    • Advance time using async_fire_time_changed when testing autolock timers or scheduled pin access windows.
