What it does

Debug Run is an agent skill from fl-sean03/OpenSDL. Diagnose a failed OpenSDL run, reproduce it in simulation, and validate the smallest correct fix. Use when a workflow or task has failed or requires intervention.

Its SKILL.md is about 440 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 1 other file (for example `run.sh`).

It sits in Agent Workflows. The repository describes itself as: A modular Python foundation for reproducible computational and autonomous laboratories. Alpha; the reference profile is simulator-only. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Task has failed
  • Requires intervention

Example prompts

  • “/debug-run”

Requirements

  • A Bash shell

Workflow steps

9 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Run .agents/skills/debug-run/run.sh RUN_ID [MANIFEST].
  2. Run uv run --locked opensdl events --manifest MANIFEST --run-id RUN_ID and identify the first
  3. Trace the policy decision, lease, adapter call, timeout, retry, and error events.
  4. Reproduce with a simulation manifest when the workflow and inputs are available.
  5. Fix the smallest correct contract, adapter, runtime, storage, or configuration layer.
  6. Add a regression test and a conformance case when an adapter contract changed.
  7. Re-run the simulation and export it with uv run --locked opensdl export RUN_ID --manifest MANIFEST.
  8. Submit a repaired workflow as a new run with opensdl run WORKFLOW --supersedes RUN_ID. A run
  9. Check propagation impact before completion.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 43f4988. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships script files (Shell), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • uv

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use uv, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Debug Run loads about 438 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 43 tokens; SKILL.md has 229 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~43
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~438

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Debug a failed run

Inputs

  • persisted run identifier
  • manifest path
  • workflow and inputs when a simulation reproduction is possible

Procedure

  1. Run .agents/skills/debug-run/run.sh RUN_ID [MANIFEST].
  2. Run uv run --locked opensdl events --manifest MANIFEST --run-id RUN_ID and identify the first failed task.
A run records the workflow it was asked to execute, so --run-id RUN_ID resumes only the identical definition and is refused for any other; superseding leaves the failed run's record intact and names the replacement on both.
  9. Check propagation impact before completion.

Completion

The cause is tied to persisted evidence, the regression test fails before the fix and passes after it, and the simulation rerun has an exported evidence bundle.

Stop conditions

Stop on ambiguous physical state or when safe recovery needs hold, abort, resume, or reconciliation behavior that the typed interface does not expose. Do not infer physical reversal from database state.

How do I install Debug Run in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add fl-sean03/OpenSDL --skill debug-run -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/debug-run in fl-sean03/OpenSDL) into .claude/skills/debug-run in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Debug Run in Codex?

Run `npx skills add fl-sean03/OpenSDL --skill debug-run -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/debug-run in fl-sean03/OpenSDL) into .agents/skills/debug-run in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Debug Run in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add fl-sean03/OpenSDL --skill debug-run -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/debug-run, .gemini/skills/debug-run, .github/skills/debug-run and .opencode/skills/debug-run in your project.

What does Debug Run need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Debug Run needs a shell for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (uv). Our summary lists: A Bash shell.

Does Debug Run access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use uv, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Debug Run safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Debug Run use?

Debug Run is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Debug Run use?

About 438 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Debug Run?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Debug Run: MCP Server Builder (anthropics/skills, 180k stars), Hook Development for Claude Code Plugins (anthropics/claude-plugins-official, 37k stars), Using Superpowers (farm-fe/farm, 5.6k stars) and Executing Plans Inline (obra/superpowers, 296k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
