What it does

Ijfw Compress is an agent skill from FerroxLabs/ijfw. Compress memory/context files into terse form. Trigger: /compress, compress file

Its SKILL.md is about 220 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

The repository describes itself as: IJFW — It Just Fcking Works. Ferrox Labs' local-first infrastructure for AI coding agents: shared memory, smart routing, multi-AI cross-audits, disciplined workflow. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/ijfw-compress”

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Back up: cp .original.md
  2. Compress prose sections.
  3. Validate: all headings preserved, all code blocks intact, all URLs unchanged.
  4. Report savings: "Compressed: 1,847 -> 923 tokens (50% saved -- approx $0.01-0.02 per session at Sonnet input pricing)"

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit eda62f3. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Ijfw Compress loads about 224 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 24 tokens; SKILL.md has 97 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~24
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~224

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Compress memory/context files into terse form. Trigger: /compress, compress file

Compress the target file. Preserve all meaning. Reduce tokens.

Rules:

  • Drop: articles (a/an/the), filler (just/really/basically), hedging, pleasantries.
  • Fragments OK. Short synonyms (big not extensive, fix not implement a solution).
  • Arrows for causality (X -> Y).
  • Abbreviate common terms (DB/auth/config/req/res/fn/impl/env/deps).
  • Preserve EXACTLY: code blocks, URLs, file paths, commands, headings, dates, versions, technical terms.
  • Only compress prose. Never touch code.

Process:

  1. Back up: cp <file> <file>.original.md
  2. Compress prose sections.
  3. Validate: all headings preserved, all code blocks intact, all URLs unchanged.
  4. Report savings: "Compressed: 1,847 -> 923 tokens (50% saved -- approx $0.01-0.02 per session at Sonnet input pricing)"
