What it does

Resurface is an agent skill from Fergana-Labs/stash. Pick a few old saves worth revisiting now, and say why now.

Its SKILL.md is about 530 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Knowledge Management. The repository describes itself as: Open-source infrastructure for agents that learn from experience. Capture production traces and turn lessons into reusable knowledge and skills. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/resurface”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit c5d8e04. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Resurface loads about 527 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 17 tokens; SKILL.md has 284 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~17
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~527

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Resurfacing old saves

The home feed already resurfaces saved items at random. Doing that again adds nothing. The whole value here is why now — the connection between something the user saved months ago and what they are doing this week.

If you cannot find that connection for an item, do not resurface it. Three items with a real reason beat ten without.

Find candidates

Old saves, from the Bookmarks table:

query_table(table_name="Bookmarks",
            filters=[{"column_id": "<Saved>", "op": "lte", "value": "<90 days ago>"}],
            limit=100)

Find the reason

This is the part a bookmark manager cannot do, and it is the only reason this skill is worth running. Look at what the user has actually been doing:

  • search_history / fetch_history — what they have been working on lately
  • recent saves — what they are reading about now
  • their memory wiki — standing interests

Then look for old saves that speak to it: an article they saved before a problem became relevant, a technique they bookmarked and never used, a counter-argument to a position they have since adopted.

Write it

Two to four items. For each:

  • What it is — one line, from its summary.
  • Why now — the specific connection, naming what they were doing. "You saved this in March; you spent this week on retry logic and it argues the opposite of the approach you took." Not "this might be relevant."
  • A link to the saved copy.

Say nothing else. No preamble, no encouragement to read more.

Rules

  • Never resurface something saved in the last month. It is not forgotten yet.
  • Never resurface the same item twice in a row; check whether a previous resurfacing page already names it.
  • If nothing has a real "why now", say "nothing from the archive connects to this week" and stop. That is the correct answer some weeks.

Can I use Resurface in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Fergana-Labs/stash --skill resurface -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/resurface, .gemini/skills/resurface, .github/skills/resurface and .opencode/skills/resurface in your project.

What does Resurface need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Resurface is instructions for the agent only.

Does Resurface access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
