What it does

Minimax Image Skill is an agent skill from feiskyer/codex-settings. Generate images when the user names MiniMax or image-01/image-01-live. Use the default image skill when no provider is named.

Its SKILL.md is about 500 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 5 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`, `minimax_image.py` and `tests/test_minimax_image.py`).

It sits in Media & Creative, covering Image generation. It works with MiniMax and Python. The repository describes itself as: Curated skills, profiles, and config templates that supercharge Codex CLI — multi-model, deep research, image gen & browser automation. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

Example prompts

  • “/minimax-image-skill”

Requirements

  • Python 3
  • A credential in MINIMAX_API_KEY

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit d7f6570. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships script files (Python), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • python3

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:

    • MINIMAX_API_KEY

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Minimax Image Skill loads about 495 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 36 tokens; SKILL.md has 222 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~36
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~495

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

MiniMax Image Skill

Generate images from a text prompt through the bundled MiniMax Image API helper.

Resolve the skill directory

Resolve the absolute directory containing this SKILL.md before running a command and refer to it as <skill-dir>. Keep output paths relative to the user's working directory unless the user requests another location.

Requirements

  • Export MINIMAX_API_KEY before running the helper.
  • Use Python 3.9 or newer. The helper uses only the Python standard library.

Generate an image

Every option has a working default, so pass only what the request actually constrains:

bash
python3 "<skill-dir>/minimax_image.py" \
--prompt "A quiet observatory beneath an aurora" \
  --output "observatory.png"

The global endpoint is used by default. Select the China endpoint explicitly when needed:

bash
python3 "<skill-dir>/minimax_image.py" \
  --region china \
  --prompt "A paper-cut landscape at sunrise" \
  --output "landscape.png"

Use --model image-01-live when requested. Consult python3 "<skill-dir>/minimax_image.py" --help for optional fields and accepted values.

The helper downloads URL responses immediately because generated URLs expire. It also decodes base64 responses and creates output parent directories automatically. For multiple results, it adds a numeric suffix to the output filename.

Safety and failures

  • Never print or persist the API key.
  • Do not call the API until the prompt and local output path pass validation.
  • If the API rejects a field combination, correct an assistant-chosen option when the user's requested result is unchanged; ask when resolving it would change a user constraint. Check for generated output before a bounded retry.
  • Do not claim success unless at least one image was saved locally.
