It sits in Testing & QA, covering End-to-end testing. It works with Rust, npm, pnpm and Playwright. The repository describes itself as: Extremely fast Vite-compatible web build tool written in Rust. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Building Farm locally from source
  • Native bindings
  • Rust plugin artifacts are missing

  • “/building-farm-from-source”

Requirements

  • Node.js
  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires Node, pnpm, cargo, npm scripts, and optional Playwright browsers for E2E.

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Install dependencies if CLIs are missing
  2. Build core native binding first
  3. Build JS package prerequisites
  4. Build Rust plugin artifacts required by core/examples
  5. Build core JS and CLI
  6. Build and test the affected example

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2000ef8. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • npm
    • npx
    • pnpm

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use npm, npx and pnpm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Requires Node, pnpm, cargo, npm scripts, and optional Playwright browsers for E2E.

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Building Farm From Source loads about 857 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 45 tokens; SKILL.md has 211 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~45
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~857

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Building Farm From Source

Overview

Farm examples depend on generated JS packages and native .node / .farm artifacts. Build missing prerequisites from the bottom up before running example builds or E2E.

When to Use

  • napi: not found, missing binding.cjs, or missing farm.*.node.
  • Cannot find module '@farmfe/plugin-*-linux-x64-gnu'.
  • packages/cli/dist/index.js or package dist/ files are missing.
  • Running examples/<name> or pnpm run test-e2e -- --example <name> locally.

Command Order

Run from /home/runner/work/farm/farm unless noted:

  1. Install dependencies if CLIs are missing:
    bash
    ELECTRON_SKIP_BINARY_DOWNLOAD=1 PLAYWRIGHT_SKIP_BROWSER_DOWNLOAD=1 corepack pnpm install
  2. Build core native binding first:
    bash
    cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm/packages/core && npm run build:rs
  3. Build JS package prerequisites:
    bash
    cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm/packages/utils && npx tsc -p tsconfig.json --outDir dist
    cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm
corepack pnpm --filter @farmfe/runtime run build
corepack pnpm --filter @farmfe/runtime-plugin-hmr run build
corepack pnpm --filter @farmfe/runtime-plugin-import-meta run build
corepack pnpm --filter @farmfe/plugin-tools run build
  4. Build Rust plugin artifacts required by core/examples:
    bash
cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm/rust-plugins/replace-dirname && npm run build
cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm/rust-plugins/react && npm run build
cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm/rust-plugins/tailwindcss && npm run build
  5. Build core JS and CLI:
    bash
    cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm
corepack pnpm --filter @farmfe/core run build
corepack pnpm --filter @farmfe/cli run build
  6. Build and test the affected example:
    bash
cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm/examples/tailwindcss-rust-plugin && npm run build
    cd /home/runner/work/farm/farm
corepack pnpm exec playwright install chromium
    corepack pnpm run test-e2e -- --example tailwindcss-rust-plugin

Notes

  • For build verification, prefer package npm run build scripts over direct Cargo commands.
  • Rust plugin builds copy local artifacts into rust-plugins/*/npm/<abi>/.
  • If pnpm install cannot download Electron or Playwright binaries, skip them during install and install Playwright Chromium only when E2E is needed.
