clean-commentsA skill your agent uses when writing, fixing, editing, or reviewing Python comments and docstrings.
Clean Comments is an agent skill from ertugrul-dmr/clean-code-skills. Use when writing, fixing, editing, or reviewing Python comments and docstrings. Enforces Clean Code principles—no metadata, no redundancy, no commented-out code.
Its SKILL.md is about 420 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Development, covering Code quality and Technical documentation. It works with Python. The licence is MIT.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 1b6b3cc. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are python).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Clean Comments loads about 422 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 44 tokens; SKILL.md has 132 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from ertugrul-dmr/clean-code-skills at commit 1b6b3cc, republished under its MIT licence (© ertugrul-dmr). 132 words, ~422 tokens.
.claude/skills/clean-comments/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Comments shouldn't hold metadata. Use Git for author names, change history, ticket numbers, and dates. Comments are for technical notes about code only.
If a comment describes code that no longer exists or works differently, delete it immediately. Stale comments become "floating islands of irrelevance and misdirection."
# Bad - the code already says this
i += 1 # increment i
user.save() # save the user
# Good - explains WHY, not WHAT
i += 1 # compensate for zero-indexing in displayIf a comment is worth writing, write it well:
# DELETE THIS - it's an abomination
# def old_calculate_tax(income):
# return income * 0.15Who knows how old it is? Who knows if it's meaningful? Delete it. Git remembers everything.
The best comment is the code itself. If you need a comment to explain what code does, refactor first, comment last.

Clean Comments fits situations like: reviewing Python comments and docstrings; tasks that involve Code quality; tasks that involve Technical documentation.
Run `npx skills add ertugrul-dmr/clean-code-skills --skill clean-comments -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/python/clean-comments in ertugrul-dmr/clean-code-skills) into .claude/skills/clean-comments in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add ertugrul-dmr/clean-code-skills --skill clean-comments -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/python/clean-comments in ertugrul-dmr/clean-code-skills) into .agents/skills/clean-comments in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add ertugrul-dmr/clean-code-skills --skill clean-comments -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/clean-comments, .gemini/skills/clean-comments, .github/skills/clean-comments and .opencode/skills/clean-comments in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Clean Comments is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: Python 3.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Clean Comments is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 422 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
