What it does

Cco Patterns is an agent skill from egorfedorov/claude-context-optimizer. Share learned file patterns across a team — export an anonymized digest of what's usually waste/useful/co-edited, and import a teammate's so a fresh clone benefits day one

Its SKILL.md is about 670 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

The repository describes itself as: Claude Code plugin that tracks token usage, identifies wasted context, and saves 30-50% on API costs. Heatmaps, ROI reports, budget alerts, efficiency scores, git-aware… The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “s usually waste/useful/co-edited, and import a teammate”
  • “/cco-patterns”

Requirements

  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Bash(node ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/src/patterns-share.js:*), Read

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit f6f20ee. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Bash(node ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/src/patterns-share.js:*)
    • Read

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • node

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Cco Patterns loads about 665 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 46 tokens; SKILL.md has 316 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~46
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~665

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

CCO Patterns — share what the project has learned

Patterns are learned per-machine, per-project: which files are usually waste, which are usually useful, which get edited together. A teammate's fresh clone starts blind and re-learns the same lessons by wasting the same tokens.

This makes them portable. Run from the plugin root (the directory containing src/patterns-share.js).

Parse $ARGUMENTS:

export

bash
node ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/src/patterns-share.js export

Writes .cco/patterns.digest.json in the project (override with --out).

The digest contains relative paths and counts only — no file contents, no absolute paths, no home directory. Entries that can't be expressed relative to the project root are dropped, and the command reports how many. The file is audited before writing; if anything identifying slipped in, it refuses to write rather than produce a file someone might commit.

Tell the user the digest is safe to commit, and that committing it is the point: teammates get it on clone.

import <file>

bash
node ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/src/patterns-share.js import .cco/patterns.digest.json

Merges into the current project's patterns. Imported data is stored as a separate prior — it never touches the user's own counts.

This matters and is worth saying out loud: confidence is computed from how many sessions this machine observed a file in. Folding someone else's sessions into that number would make the user's own confidence a lie. So the import fills in only where the user has no observations of their own — the fresh-clone case — and local evidence always wins.

The digest is audited on the way in too, since it came from elsewhere. A file with absolute paths or traversal segments is rejected, not sanitized.

show

bash
node ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/src/patterns-share.js show

Lists what was imported for this project and how each file is labelled.

Suggesting this

Worth offering when:

  • The user is setting up a repo for a team and asks about onboarding cost.
  • A project has meaningful waste history (/cco-shield shows repeat offenders) that every teammate will otherwise rediscover.
  • Someone just cloned a repo that already has .cco/patterns.digest.json — offer to import it.

Questions about Cco Patterns

What does Cco Patterns do?

Share learned file patterns across a team — export an anonymized digest of what's usually waste/useful/co-edited, and import a teammate's so a fresh clone benefits day one. Cco Patterns is an agent skill from egorfedorov/claude-context-optimizer.

How do I install Cco Patterns in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add egorfedorov/claude-context-optimizer --skill cco-patterns -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/cco-patterns in egorfedorov/claude-context-optimizer) into .claude/skills/cco-patterns in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Cco Patterns in Codex?

Run `npx skills add egorfedorov/claude-context-optimizer --skill cco-patterns -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/cco-patterns in egorfedorov/claude-context-optimizer) into .agents/skills/cco-patterns in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Cco Patterns in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add egorfedorov/claude-context-optimizer --skill cco-patterns -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/cco-patterns, .gemini/skills/cco-patterns, .github/skills/cco-patterns and .opencode/skills/cco-patterns in your project.

What does Cco Patterns need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Cco Patterns needs the command-line tools its instructions call (node). Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Bash(node ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/src/patterns-share.js:*), Read.

Does Cco Patterns access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Cco Patterns safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Cco Patterns use?

Cco Patterns is published under the MIT licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Cco Patterns use?

About 665 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Cco Patterns?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Cco Patterns: Learning to Learn (OpenMAIC) (THU-MAIC/OpenMAIC, 40k stars), Share (ClickHouse/ClickHouse, 50k stars), Project Learnings Manager (garrytan/gstack, 136k stars) and Scikit Learn (K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills, 48k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Cco Patterns?

egorfedorov (a GitHub user) maintains it in egorfedorov/claude-context-optimizer, which has 114 GitHub stars. The repository holds 13 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on September 30, 2026.
