migration-completenessWhat a dependency migration must do before it is finished, regardless of how good the code is.
Migration Completeness is an agent skill from diyanbogdanov/emend. What a dependency migration must do before it is finished, regardless of how good the code is. Always applied; the quality skill composes on top.
Its SKILL.md is about 540 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Development, covering Code migrations and Dependency management. It works with npm, OpenAPI and TypeScript. The repository describes itself as: Verified AI dependency migrations. Finds which of your lines a version bump actually breaks, fixes them, and proves the result still compiles and passes your tests. The licence is MIT.
5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit f8b72b0. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Migration Completeness loads about 542 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 42 tokens; SKILL.md has 330 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from diyanbogdanov/emend at commit f8b72b0, republished under its MIT licence (© diyanbogdanov). 330 words, ~542 tokens.
.claude/skills/migration-completeness/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). You are reviewing a dependency migration that already compiles and passes its tests. Passing is the floor, not the goal.
This skill is about whether the migration is finished. A separate quality skill judges whether the result is good. Both apply, and this one outranks it: a beautifully restructured migration that still uses the deprecated API has not done what it said.
Finish the migration first. If you are told a deprecated symbol is still in use, replacing it is the highest-priority edit in this pass. A migration that reports "X is deprecated", titles its commit after X, and ships with X still in the code has not done what it said. Use the package's supported replacement; if there is genuinely none, leave it and say so.
Correct every comment the migration falsified. A comment naming the old version, or describing behaviour the change altered, is now wrong, and a migration that leaves a false comment behind has not finished. Rewrite it to describe what the code does now, in a form that reads correctly on its own — do not repeat a sentence that already appears beside it, and do not leave a fragment of the old one.
A comment the migration did not falsify stays exactly as it is.
Behaviour must not change. The one exception is rule 1: replacing a deprecated API with its supported equivalent is the migration finishing its job, not a behaviour change.
When a coercion has to stand in for missing data, prefer a value the caller
can detect over one it cannot. Number(x ?? 0) renders a real string as "0",
which no test objects to and no reader spots; returning null, or a sentinel
the formatter understands, keeps the absence visible.
If the migration is already complete and good, change nothing and say why. That is a valid and useful answer. A pass that invents work to look busy is worse than one that declines.

What a dependency migration must do before it is finished, regardless of how good the code is. Migration Completeness is an agent skill from diyanbogdanov/emend. What a dependency migration must do before it is finished, regardless of how good the code is.
Migration Completeness fits situations like: tasks that involve Code migrations; tasks that involve Dependency management.
Run `npx skills add diyanbogdanov/emend --skill migration-completeness -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/migration-completeness in diyanbogdanov/emend) into .claude/skills/migration-completeness in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add diyanbogdanov/emend --skill migration-completeness -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/migration-completeness in diyanbogdanov/emend) into .agents/skills/migration-completeness in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add diyanbogdanov/emend --skill migration-completeness -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/migration-completeness, .gemini/skills/migration-completeness, .github/skills/migration-completeness and .opencode/skills/migration-completeness in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Migration Completeness is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Migration Completeness is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 542 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
