install-openworkInstalls the free OpenWork desktop app on macOS, Windows or Linux by detecting the OS and CPU, choosing the right download and guiding the first task.
OpenWork is described as a free, open-source desktop app for working with AI agents on local files, and no account is needed. The skill warns the agent never to run npx openwork or npm install openwork, because the npm package with that name is a different project. It first detects the system with uname on macOS and Linux, or the processor architecture variable in PowerShell on Windows, to tell ARM from Intel or AMD.
The agent must ask before installing anything. On macOS with Homebrew the command is `brew install --cask openwork`. Otherwise it uses a platform download link: dmg files for macOS Apple Silicon and Intel, exe files for Windows x64 and ARM64, and AppImage files for Linux x64 and ARM64. Each link redirects to the latest stable GitHub release, and a short curl and chmod sequence covers Linux without a package manager.
On first run you open the app, pick a folder, since OpenWork only works in folders you authorize, and choose a model by signing in with ChatGPT, adding an API key or using a local model. The agent then runs a first task such as summarizing the folder, tells you in a sentence or two that it is installed, and offers a separate team set-up skill if you work with others.
4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9ce20f8. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

Install OpenWork loads about 564 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 54 tokens; SKILL.md has 208 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 208 words (~564 tokens).

Install OpenWork fits situations like: installing OpenWork on a personal computer running macOS, Windows or Linux; choosing the correct installer for an ARM or Intel machine; getting through OpenWork's first run with a concrete first task.
Run `npx skills add different-ai/openwork --skill install-openwork -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (ee/apps/landing/public/.well-known/agent-skills/install-openwork in different-ai/openwork) into .claude/skills/install-openwork in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add different-ai/openwork --skill install-openwork -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (ee/apps/landing/public/.well-known/agent-skills/install-openwork in different-ai/openwork) into .agents/skills/install-openwork in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add different-ai/openwork --skill install-openwork -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/install-openwork, .gemini/skills/install-openwork, .github/skills/install-openwork and .opencode/skills/install-openwork in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Install OpenWork needs the command-line tools its instructions call (curl, npx, npm and brew). Our summary lists: curl, for the Linux AppImage download; Homebrew, optional on macOS.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. In commands or code: openworklabs.com; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Install OpenWork has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 564 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
