At a glance

Create and integrate a new Rust crate in the IronRDP workspace.

  • Initializing a crate under crates/
  • Calls cargo
  • Including requests that mention cargo new
  • A new library package

What it does

New Crate is an agent skill from Devolutions/IronRDP. Create and integrate a new Rust crate in the IronRDP workspace. Use whenever adding, scaffolding, or initializing a crate under crates/, including requests that mention cargo new, a new library package, or registering a crate in the architecture.

Its SKILL.md is about 240 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Development, covering Project scaffolding. It works with Rust. The repository describes itself as: Rust implementation of the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Initializing a crate under crates/
  • Including requests that mention cargo new
  • A new library package
  • Registering a crate in the architecture

Example prompts

  • “/new-crate”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2c08bda. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • cargo

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

New Crate loads about 236 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 64 tokens; SKILL.md has 75 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~64
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~236

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Create and integrate a new Rust crate in the IronRDP workspace. Use whenever adding, scaffolding, or initializing a crate under crates/, including requests that mention cargo new, a new library package, or registering a crate in the architecture.

New crate

Run cargo new --lib --vcs none crates/<crate-name> from the repository root. Do not hand-create the directory or initial Cargo.toml.

In the generated manifest:

  • Preserve the workspace inheritance entries.

  • Set version = "0.0.0" and publish = false.

  • Add readme, description, the repository's current rust-version, and [lints] workspace = true.

  • Add:

    toml
    [lib]
    doctest = false
    test = false

Invoke crate-readme-writer to write a short README.md. Add the crate to the appropriate ARCHITECTURE.md tier by following its existing entry pattern. Invoke public-dependency whenever adding a dependency.
