What it does

Strategy Pattern is an agent skill from dev-toolings/superpowers-symfony. Implement the Strategy pattern with Symfony's tagged services for runtime algorithm selection and extensibility

Its SKILL.md is about 400 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 1 other file (for example `reference.md`).

It works with Symfony. The repository describes itself as: Claude Code plugin for Symfony 7.4 LTS & 8.x — 44 skills, 7 AI subagents & 13 commands for API Platform v4, Doctrine ORM 3, TDD (Pest/PHPUnit), Messenger, security & DDD. The licence is MIT.

Requirements

  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Glob, Grep

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Define the strategy interface, with a supports() method or a key per strategy.
  2. Tag every implementation through #[AutoconfigureTag] on the interface or on each class.
  3. Inject them with #[AutowireIterator] to try each in order, or #[AutowireLocator] to fetch one by key.
  4. Set priorities where evaluation order matters, and register a fallback strategy.
  5. Test each strategy alone, and the selector with fakes.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 459bcd0. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Glob
    • Grep

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Strategy Pattern loads about 402 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 32 tokens; SKILL.md has 190 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~32
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~402

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Strategy Pattern (Symfony)

Use when

  • One operation has several interchangeable algorithms chosen at runtime, such as payment providers or export formats.
  • A switch or match on a type string keeps growing.
  • New variants must be added without editing the code that selects them.

Default workflow

Guardrails

  • The selector fails explicitly when no strategy supports the input.
  • Keep strategies stateless and independent of each other.
  • Two cases that will not grow do not need the pattern: a match is enough.

Progressive disclosure

  • Use this file for execution posture and risk controls.
  • Open references when deep implementation details are needed.

Output contract

  • The interface and its tagged implementations.
  • The selector, with its order and its fallback.
  • Tests per strategy and for the no-match case.

Questions about Strategy Pattern

What does Strategy Pattern do?

Implement the Strategy pattern with Symfony's tagged services for runtime algorithm selection and extensibility. Strategy Pattern is an agent skill from dev-toolings/superpowers-symfony.

How do I install Strategy Pattern in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add dev-toolings/superpowers-symfony --skill strategy-pattern -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (content/skills/strategy-pattern in dev-toolings/superpowers-symfony) into .claude/skills/strategy-pattern in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Strategy Pattern in Codex?

Run `npx skills add dev-toolings/superpowers-symfony --skill strategy-pattern -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (content/skills/strategy-pattern in dev-toolings/superpowers-symfony) into .agents/skills/strategy-pattern in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Strategy Pattern in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add dev-toolings/superpowers-symfony --skill strategy-pattern -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/strategy-pattern, .gemini/skills/strategy-pattern, .github/skills/strategy-pattern and .opencode/skills/strategy-pattern in your project.

What does Strategy Pattern need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Strategy Pattern is instructions for the agent only. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Glob, Grep.

Does Strategy Pattern access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Strategy Pattern safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Strategy Pattern use?

Strategy Pattern is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Strategy Pattern use?

About 402 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Strategy Pattern?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Strategy Pattern: Sync Translations (symfony/symfony, 31k stars), Bug Triage (symfony/symfony, 31k stars), Merge Up (symfony/symfony, 31k stars) and PR Merge (symfony/symfony, 31k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Strategy Pattern?

dev-toolings (a GitHub organization) maintains it in dev-toolings/superpowers-symfony, which has 222 GitHub stars. The repository holds 44 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on October 5, 2026.
