What it does

Changeset is an agent skill from deadlock-mod-manager/deadlock-mod-manager. Generate a changeset file describing the current PR's changes. Use when asked to "create a changeset", "add a changeset", "/changeset", or after implementing a feature/fix that needs a changelog entry. Produces a randomly named .changeset/.md file with affected packages, bump type, and an 80-character-max user-facing summary.

Its SKILL.md is about 1.2k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Development, covering Changelog and release notes. The repository describes itself as: A mod manager for the Valve game Deadlock. The licence is GPL-3.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Asked to create a changeset
  • Add a changeset
  • After implementing a feature/fix that needs a changelog entry

Example prompts

  • “s changes. Use when asked to”
  • “add a changeset”
  • “/changeset”
  • “/changeset”

Workflow steps

7 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Gather Context
  2. Decide If A Changeset Is Needed
  3. Determine Affected Packages
  4. Determine Bump Type
  5. Generate Filename
  6. Write the Changeset
  7. Confirm

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 45c273c. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Changeset loads about 1.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 85 tokens; SKILL.md has 384 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~85
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.2k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Create a Changeset

Generate a properly formatted changeset file in .changeset/ describing the work on the current branch / PR. Follow the project's changeset conventions in .cursor/rules/090-changesets.mdc.

Instructions

1. Gather Context

Determine what changed on the current branch versus the default branch:

bash
echo "=== BRANCH ===" && git rev-parse --abbrev-ref HEAD && echo "=== CHANGED FILES ===" && git diff --name-only origin/main...HEAD && echo "=== DIFF SUMMARY ===" && git diff --stat origin/main...HEAD

If origin/main is not available, fall back to staged + unstaged changes (git status and git diff).

2. Decide If A Changeset Is Needed

Create one for: new features, bug fixes, breaking changes, performance improvements, security fixes.

Skip for: refactors with no user impact, formatting, docs-only, tests-only, internal tooling, dev dependency bumps.

If a changeset is not needed, tell the user and stop.

3. Determine Affected Packages

Map changed file paths to package names from package.json files. Common mappings:

PathPackage name
apps/api/**@deadlock-mods/api
apps/bot/**@deadlock-mods/bot
apps/desktop/**@deadlock-mods/desktop
apps/lockdex/**@deadlock-mods/lockdex
apps/www/**@deadlock-mods/www
packages/common/**@deadlock-mods/common
packages/database/**@deadlock-mods/database
packages/shared/**@deadlock-mods/shared
packages/ui/**@deadlock-mods/ui
packages/<name>/**@deadlock-mods/<name>

Only include packages directly modified. Do not include transitive dependents.

4. Determine Bump Type
TypeWhen
patchBug fixes, small internal-facing changes with user impact
minorNew features, backwards-compatible additions
majorBreaking changes that require user action
5. Generate Filename

Pick a random kebab-case filename matching the existing convention adjective-noun-verb.md (three short words, lowercase, hyphen-separated).

Examples already in .changeset/: swift-foxes-leap.md, gentle-cats-gather.md, brave-otters-fall.md.

Verify the filename does not already exist in .changeset/ before writing. If it collides, pick another.

Show full SKILL.md (164 more words)Show less
6. Write the Changeset

Write to .changeset/<random-name>.md using this exact format:

markdown
---
"@deadlock-mods/<package>": <patch|minor|major>
---

<Summary, max 80 characters, starts with a verb, user-facing>

For multiple affected packages, list each on its own line in the frontmatter.

Summary rules:

  • Hard limit: 80 characters
  • Start with an imperative verb (Add, Fix, Improve, Remove, Update)
  • Describe what changed from the user's perspective, not how
  • No trailing period required
  • No emojis, no markdown formatting in the summary line

Good summaries:

text
Add dark mode toggle to settings page
Fix crash when downloading large mod files
Improve mod installation performance by 50%

Bad summaries:

text
Updated code
Fixed bug
Refactored component
chore: refactor download logic to use streams (over 80 chars and not user-facing)
7. Confirm

Print the path to the created file and its contents. Do not stage or commit it unless asked — it will be committed alongside the user's code changes.

Example Output

text
Created .changeset/brave-foxes-hunt.md:

---
"@deadlock-mods/desktop": patch
---

Fix crash when launching the game after disabling all mods

Example Usage

User: "/changeset", "create a changeset", or "add a changeset for this PR"

Response:

  1. Run the git command to gather changed files
  2. Decide if a changeset is warranted; stop if not
  3. Map paths to packages and pick a bump type
  4. Generate a unique random filename
  5. Write the file with frontmatter and an 80-char-max summary
  6. Print the resulting path and contents
