What it does

Ctx Start is an agent skill from dchu917/ctx. Create a new ContextFun workstream and its first session, then print a markdown pack.

Its SKILL.md is about 270 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 4 other files, including scripts (for example `scripts/skills/ctx_start.sh`).

It sits in Documents & Office, covering Markdown. The repository describes itself as: Local context manager for Claude Code and Codex with workstreams, transcript binding, and branching. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Markdown

Example prompts

  • “/ctx-start”

Requirements

  • Python 3
  • A Bash shell

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit bdb602c. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships 1 file in scripts/ (Shell), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • bash
    • python3

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Ctx Start loads about 272 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 24 tokens; SKILL.md has 117 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~24
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~272

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

description
Create a new ContextFun workstream and its first session, then print a markdown pack.

What it does

  • Creates a new workstream and its first session.
  • Imports the newest transcript from Codex/Claude (local storage).
  • Prints a compact markdown pack that can be pasted back into the chat.

How to trigger

  • In Codex:
    • ctx-start <workstream>
    • ctx-start --pull <workstream> (also ingests current chat)
    • --pull can appear before or after the workstream name
  • Run from terminal:
    • bash ./scripts/skills/ctx_start.sh --pull my-workstream
    • ctx-start my-workstream
    • python3 scripts/ctx_cmd.py start my-workstream --format markdown

Requirements

  • If the requested workstream name already exists, ctx automatically creates name (1), name (2), and so on.
  • Use ctx resume <workstream> to continue an existing workstream.
  • Python 3.9+
  • Local transcripts in ~/.codex/sessions or ~/.claude/projects (override via CODEX_HOME/CLAUDE_HOME).
  • ContextFun DB (local or global). Use scripts/quickstart.sh to initialize.
