What it does

Te2 CLI is an agent skill from data-goblin/power-bi-agentic-development. CLI syntax reference for Tabular Editor 2 (TabularEditor.exe); deployment, scripting, BPA analysis, and CI/CD integration. Automatically invoke when the user mentions "TabularEditor.exe", TE2 CLI flags (-D, -S, -A, -B, -TMDL, -O, -C), or asks to "deploy a model via CLI", "set up CI/CD for Power BI", "automate model deployment", "run BPA from command line", "save model as TMDL".

Its SKILL.md is about 2k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/auth-and-cicd.md`).

It sits in DevOps & Cloud, covering CI/CD and Deployment. It works with Power BI. The repository describes itself as: Power BI AI skills and Power BI agents for Claude Code and GitHub Copilot: a plugin marketplace of Power BI skills, subagents, and hooks for semantic models, DAX, TMDL, reports… The licence is GPL-3.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Mentions TabularEditor.exe
  • TE2 CLI flags (-D
  • Asks to deploy a model via CLI
  • Set up CI/CD for Power BI

Example prompts

  • “TabularEditor.exe”
  • “deploy a model via CLI”
  • “set up CI/CD for Power BI”
  • “/te2-cli”

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Deploy Local Model to Service
  2. Run Script and Save
  3. Run BPA Analysis
  4. Refresh Model Data
  5. Export Model from Service

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 41886f2. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • choco

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

    • raw.githubusercontent.com

    Also links to:

    • tabulareditor.com
    • github.com
    • docs.tabulareditor.com
    • learn.microsoft.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Te2 CLI loads about 2k tokens when it runs, and up to ~2.4k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 97 tokens; SKILL.md has 432 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~97
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~2.4k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Tabular Editor 2 CLI

Command-line interface for Tabular Editor 2 (TE2). This skill covers the TabularEditor.exe executable; TE3 has its own CLI and is a separate product.

[!NOTE] The TE2 CLI (TabularEditor.exe) is still supported and stable, and remains a solid choice for existing Windows CI/CD pipelines. It is now considered outdated against the newer cross-platform Tabular Editor CLI (te), which is built on TE3 and is in preview until Q4 2026. For the te command set and a flag-by-flag migration, see the te-cli skill. Download te preview binaries from the Tabular Editor CLI downloads page.
