What it does

Playwright Best Practices is an agent skill from sanity-io/sanity, published by the product's own GitHub organization. Use when writing Playwright tests, fixing flaky tests, debugging failures, implementing Page Object Model, configuring CI/CD, optimizing performance, mocking APIs, handling authentication or OAuth, testing accessibility (axe-core), file uploads/downloads, date/time mocking, WebSockets, geolocation, permissions, multi-tab/popup flows, mobile/responsive layouts, touch gestures, GraphQL, error handling, offline mode, multi-user collaboration, third-party services (payments, email verification), console error…

Its SKILL.md is about 6.4k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 68 other files (for example `LICENSE.md`, `README.md` and `advanced/authentication-flows.md`).

It sits in Testing & QA, covering Web performance, Browser testing and Internationalization. It works with Playwright, GraphQL and Chrome Extensions. The repository describes itself as: Sanity Studio – Rapidly configure content workspaces powered by structured content. The licence is MIT.

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Run tests: npx playwright test --reporter=list
  2. If tests fail
  3. Only proceed when all tests pass
  4. Run multiple times for critical tests: npx playwright test --repeat-each=5

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 982525c. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • npx

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use npx, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Playwright Best Practices loads about 6.4k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 253 tokens; SKILL.md has 687 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~253
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~6.4k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Test Validation Loop

After writing or modifying tests:

  1. Run tests: npx playwright test --reporter=list
  2. If tests fail:
    • Review error output and trace (npx playwright show-trace)
    • Fix locators, waits, or assertions
    • Re-run tests
  3. Only proceed when all tests pass
  4. Run multiple times for critical tests: npx playwright test --repeat-each=5
