What it does

Extract Oci Archive is an agent skill from coreos/chunkah. Use when you need to extract an OCI archive to inspect its contents, get the rootfs layer, or read the image config.

Its SKILL.md is about 260 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

The repository describes itself as: An OCI building tool for content-based layers. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Get the rootfs layer
  • Read the image config

Example prompts

  • “/extract-oci-archive”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 780bcd2. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • jq

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Extract Oci Archive loads about 263 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 34 tokens; SKILL.md has 49 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~34
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~263

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Extract OCI Archive

Extract the OCI archive structure

bash
mkdir /tmp/oci-extracted
tar -xf /path/to/image.ociarchive -C /tmp/oci-extracted

Get the manifest digest from index.json

bash
MANIFEST=$(jq -r '.manifests[0].digest' /tmp/oci-extracted/index.json \
    | cut -d: -f2)

Extract a layer to get the rootfs

For a single-layer image:

bash
LAYER=$(jq -r '.layers[0].digest' \
    /tmp/oci-extracted/blobs/sha256/${MANIFEST} | cut -d: -f2)
mkdir /tmp/rootfs
tar -xf /tmp/oci-extracted/blobs/sha256/${LAYER} -C /tmp/rootfs

For multi-layer images, extract each layer in order and overlay them.

Read the image config

The config contains the created timestamp, entrypoint, labels, etc.:

bash
CONFIG=$(jq -r '.config.digest' \
    /tmp/oci-extracted/blobs/sha256/${MANIFEST} | cut -d: -f2)
jq . /tmp/oci-extracted/blobs/sha256/${CONFIG}
