codevCodev project management CLI — init, adopt, update, and doctor commands.
Codev is an agent skill from cluesmith/codev. Codev project management CLI — init, adopt, update, and doctor commands. Check this skill before running any codev command (except consult, porch, or afx which have their own skills). Use when setting up new projects, adding codev to existing repos, updating framework files, or diagnosing missing dependencies.
Its SKILL.md is about 960 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Product & Project Management, covering Project management. It works with pnpm. The repository describes itself as: Codev helps humans and agents co-develop both the context and the code of the project. The licence is Apache-2.0.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9cd8607. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
pnpmnpmFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use pnpm and npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Codev loads about 962 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 81 tokens; SKILL.md has 326 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

codev init my-app # Interactive setup
codev init my-app -y # Non-interactive with defaultsAdds codev to the current directory (existing project). Run from the project root. If CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md already exists, creates .codev-new versions and spawns Claude to merge.
codev adopt # Interactive
codev adopt -y # Skip conflict promptsUpdates framework files (protocols, roles, skills) from the installed @cluesmith/codev package. Never touches user data (specs, plans, reviews). Creates .codev-new versions for customized files. Missing Claude and Codex skills are added, while existing skill directories are preserved.

Run from the repository root:
pnpm build # builds core first, then codev (including dashboard)
pnpm -w run local-install # packs both packages, installs globally, restarts Towerlocal-install (scripts/local-install.sh) packs @cluesmith/codev-core and
@cluesmith/codev, installs both in a single npm install -g (separate installs fail —
codev-core is not on the public registry), restores the executable bit on
scripts/forge/**/*.sh that pnpm pack strips, and restarts Tower last. Install runs while
Tower is up; only the final restart causes downtime. Do not stop Tower first, and do not use
npm link / pnpm link — it breaks global installs.
pnpm build also runs copy-skeleton, which copies codev-skeleton/ into
packages/codev/skeleton. Tests read that copy, so after editing anything under
codev-skeleton/ you must rebuild before the suite reflects your change.

Codev fits situations like: setting up new projects; adding codev to existing repos; updating framework files; diagnosing missing dependencies.
Run `npx skills add cluesmith/codev --skill codev -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.codex/skills/codev in cluesmith/codev) into .claude/skills/codev in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add cluesmith/codev --skill codev -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.codex/skills/codev in cluesmith/codev) into .agents/skills/codev in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add cluesmith/codev --skill codev -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/codev, .gemini/skills/codev, .github/skills/codev and .opencode/skills/codev in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Codev needs the command-line tools its instructions call (pnpm and npm). Our summary lists: Node.js.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Codev is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 962 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Codev: CCPM Project Management (automazeio/ccpm, 8.4k stars), Uv (astral-sh/claude-code-plugins, 314 stars), Project Management (kunchenguid/firstmate, 7.6k stars) and Hivemind Goals (activeloopai/hivemind, 1.6k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
