basinBuild and troubleshoot Cloudflare Basin analytics workflows with Basin Pipelines, Basin Catalog, and Basin SQL.
Basin is an agent skill from cloudflare/skills, published by the product's own GitHub organization. Build and troubleshoot Cloudflare Basin analytics workflows with Basin Pipelines, Basin Catalog, and Basin SQL. Use for streaming data into R2 Iceberg tables, managing catalogs, or querying those tables; also use for requests using the former Data Platform, Pipelines, R2 Data Catalog, or R2 SQL names.
Its SKILL.md is about 680 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 19 other files, including reference files (for example `references/catalog/README.md`, `references/catalog/api.md` and `references/catalog/configuration.md`).
It sits in Databases, covering SQL and Data governance. It works with Cloudflare, SQL, Cloudflare Workers and Cloudflare R2. The repository describes itself as: Skills for teaching agents how to build on Cloudflare. The licence is Apache-2.0.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 41e0d19. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
wranglerFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):
developers.cloudflare.comgithub.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
WRANGLER_BASIN_SQL_AUTH_TOKENFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Basin loads about 684 tokens when it runs, and up to ~13k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 77 tokens; SKILL.md has 267 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/basin/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 15 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Basin ingests and transforms events, manages Apache Iceberg tables in R2, and queries them with distributed SQL. Start with the Basin overview and retrieve the relevant current docs before implementing changes, especially for limits, pricing, permissions, and CLI syntax. While PR #33850 remains open, use the proposed pages in that PR if the new URLs have not been published.
Cloudflare Data Platform is now Basin. Cloudflare Pipelines, R2 Data Catalog, and R2 SQL are now Basin Pipelines, Basin Catalog, and Basin SQL. Existing resources and configurations continue to work. The prior Wrangler command families also continue to work: wrangler pipelines, wrangler r2 bucket catalog, and wrangler r2 sql. Use the new Basin commands and documentation URLs in new guidance. Legacy API identifiers and metrics names may still use the old terms; check the current docs for deprecation details. The migration is documented in cloudflare-docs PR #33850.
| Need | Product | Reference | Current docs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Receive events, transform rows, and deliver to R2 | Basin Pipelines | Pipelines guide | Basin Pipelines |
| Manage Iceberg metadata, table maintenance, and engine access | Basin Catalog | Catalog guide | Basin Catalog |
| Query Iceberg tables with analytical SQL | Basin SQL | SQL guide | Basin SQL |
Typical flow: Basin Pipelines → Basin Catalog tables in R2 → Basin SQL or a compatible external engine. Begin with the Basin getting started guide for an end-to-end setup.
The proposed Wrangler command families are wrangler basin pipelines, wrangler basin catalog, and wrangler basin sql. Basin SQL uses WRANGLER_BASIN_SQL_AUTH_TOKEN; its REST query path is /basin-sql/query/{BUCKET}. Check the installed Wrangler version and current reference pages before running commands because the migration is ongoing.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add cloudflare/skills --skill basin -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/basin, .gemini/skills/basin, .github/skills/basin and .opencode/skills/basin in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Basin needs the command-line tools its instructions call (wrangler) and credentials named WRANGLER_BASIN_SQL_AUTH_TOKEN. Our summary lists: A credential in WRANGLER_BASIN_SQL_AUTH_TOKEN.
SKILL.md names 2 domains. As links in the text: developers.cloudflare.com and github.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Basin is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 684 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 13k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
