artifact-fsMounts Git remotes as local working trees with ArtifactFS without a full clone, and explains committed versus dirty overlay state and multi-repo mounts under one daemon.
ArtifactFS is a filesystem driver that mounts large Git repos quickly and hydrates file contents on first read, and this skill covers using it as a consumer through its CLI. Prerequisites are checked first: macFUSE or /dev/fuse must be present, and the artifact-fs binary must exist or be built with go build. A dedicated state root set through ARTIFACT_FS_ROOT, usually under /tmp, keeps mounts and caches isolated.
The add-repo command registers a blobless clone but does not mount it, while the daemon command mounts all registered repos and keeps running, so one daemon can serve many repos. The mounted tree starts from the committed state of the branch HEAD, local edits live in an overlay and show as dirty state that status reports as overlay_dirty=true, and git add and git commit inside the mount are supported. Other commands list, unmount and remove repos. HTTPS remotes are preferred, and tokens should never be embedded in the remote URL because command-line arguments can show up in process listings.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2b87a48. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

ArtifactFS Git Mounts loads about 831 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 56 tokens; SKILL.md has 289 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Prerequisites are checked first: macFUSE or /dev/fuse must be present, and the artifact-fs binary must exist or be built with go build.
ArtifactFS Git Mounts fits situations like: mounting a remote Git repo without waiting for a full clone; explaining committed state versus dirty overlay state in a mount; mounting several repos under one ArtifactFS daemon; checking status or unmounting a repo.
Run `npx skills add cloudflare/artifact-fs --skill artifact-fs -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/artifact-fs in cloudflare/artifact-fs) into .claude/skills/artifact-fs in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add cloudflare/artifact-fs --skill artifact-fs -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/artifact-fs in cloudflare/artifact-fs) into .agents/skills/artifact-fs in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add cloudflare/artifact-fs --skill artifact-fs -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/artifact-fs, .gemini/skills/artifact-fs, .github/skills/artifact-fs and .opencode/skills/artifact-fs in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, ArtifactFS Git Mounts needs the command-line tools its instructions call (git and go). Our summary lists: macFUSE on macOS or /dev/fuse on Linux; The artifact-fs binary, or Go to build it; Git remote access, preferably over HTTPS.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. In commands or code: github.com; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
ArtifactFS Git Mounts is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 831 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with ArtifactFS Git Mounts: Code Design Rationale Investigator (cursor/plugins, 10k stars), Ansible Backport Creator (ansible/ansible, 71k stars), Hunk Release Workflow (modem-dev/hunk, 9.5k stars) and Worktrunk Release Workflow (max-sixty/worktrunk, 9k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
