create-test-datasetsCreate test datasets (hits, visits, tpcds, tpch) from standard scripts.
Create Test Datasets is an agent skill from ClickHouse/ClickHouse. Create test datasets (hits, visits, tpcds, tpch) from standard scripts. Ensures the server is running first.
Its SKILL.md is about 1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Databases. The repository describes itself as: ClickHouse® is a real-time analytics database management system. The licence is Apache-2.0.
7 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cd023af. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
Bash(clickhouse-client:*)Bash(clickhouse:*)Bash(pgrep:*)Bash(ls:*)Bash(cat:*)Bash(bash:*)ReadGlobGrepAskUserQuestionFrom allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
bashFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Create Test Datasets loads about 1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 32 tokens; SKILL.md has 432 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from ClickHouse/ClickHouse at commit cd023af, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© ClickHouse). 432 words, ~1,027 tokens.
.claude/skills/create-test-datasets/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Set up test datasets by executing standard creation scripts. Supports hits, visits, tpcds, and tpch.
$ARGS (optional): Space-separated list of dataset names from {hits, visits, tpcds, tpch}. If no arguments are provided, defaults to hits visits.Examples:
/create-test-datasets — sets up hits and visits (default)/create-test-datasets hits — sets up only hits/create-test-datasets tpch tpcds — sets up TPC-H and TPC-DS/create-test-datasets hits visits tpch — sets up all threeParse the argument string into a set of requested datasets. Valid values are hits, visits, tpcds, tpch. If no arguments are provided, use {hits, visits} as the default. If any argument is not in the valid set, report an error and stop.
clickhouse-client -q "SELECT 1" 2>&1If the server is not reachable, report an error and stop. Do not attempt to start the server — ask the user to start it first.
Before making any changes, check whether any target tables already exist. Query system.tables once:
clickhouse-client -q "SELECT database || '.' || name FROM system.tables WHERE
(database = 'test' AND name IN ('hits', 'visits'))
OR (database = 'tpcds')
OR (database = 'tpch')"Build a list of conflicting tables based on what was requested:
hits is requested: test.hits must not exist.visits is requested: test.visits must not exist.tpcds is requested: the tpcds database must have no tables.tpch is requested: the tpch database must have no tables. If any conflicts are found, report all of them to the user and stop. Do not drop or overwrite anything. Suggest the user drop the conflicting tables manually and rerun the skill.
Only execute this step if hits or visits (or both) are in the requested set.
The file tests/docker_scripts/create.sql contains two CREATE TABLE statements: one for datasets.hits_v1 and one for datasets.visits_v1. For each requested dataset, extract only the corresponding statement, replace the table name to create it directly as test.hits or test.visits, and execute it. This avoids creating unnecessary intermediate tables.
clickhouse-client -q "CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS test"If hits is requested — extract the datasets.hits_v1 statement, replace the name, and execute:
clickhouse-client --multiquery <<< "$(sed -n '/^CREATE TABLE datasets\.hits_v1/,/);/p' tests/docker_scripts/create.sql | sed 's/datasets\.hits_v1/test.hits/')"If visits is requested — extract the datasets.visits_v1 statement, replace the name, and execute:
clickhouse-client --multiquery <<< "$(sed -n '/^CREATE TABLE datasets\.visits_v1/,/);/p' tests/docker_scripts/create.sql | sed 's/datasets\.visits_v1/test.visits/')"Only execute this step if tpcds is in the requested set.
bash tests/docker_scripts/create_tpcds.shOnly execute this step if tpch is in the requested set.
bash tests/docker_scripts/create_tpch.shFor each dataset that was set up, confirm it exists and report row counts:
hits: SELECT 'test.hits', count() FROM test.hitsvisits: SELECT 'test.visits', count() FROM test.visitstpcds: SELECT name, total_rows FROM system.tables WHERE database = 'tpcds' ORDER BY nametpch: SELECT name, total_rows FROM system.tables WHERE database = 'tpch' ORDER BY nameReport all results to the user.

Create Test Datasets fits situations like: databases work in your project.
Run `npx skills add ClickHouse/ClickHouse --skill create-test-datasets -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/create-test-datasets in ClickHouse/ClickHouse) into .claude/skills/create-test-datasets in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add ClickHouse/ClickHouse --skill create-test-datasets -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/create-test-datasets, .gemini/skills/create-test-datasets, .github/skills/create-test-datasets and .opencode/skills/create-test-datasets in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Create Test Datasets needs the command-line tools its instructions call (bash). Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Bash(clickhouse-client:*), Bash(clickhouse:*), Bash(pgrep:*), Bash(ls:*), Bash(cat:*), Bash(bash:*), Read, Glob, Grep, AskUserQuestion.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Create Test Datasets is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
