What it does

Ingest Tool is an agent skill from Ckokoski/AuthorAgent. Read source code of any tool and generate an AuthorAgent skill from it

Its SKILL.md is about 470 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

The repository describes itself as: The Autonomous AI Writing Agent — a secure, author-focused AI for fiction and nonfiction authors (Planning, Revision, Promotion, and more). The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/ingest-tool”

Requirements

  • Python 3

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Read the source code provided by the user (file path or pasted code)
  2. Analyze the tool
  3. Generate SKILL.md with
  4. Save to skills/author/[tool-name]/SKILL.md (or marketing/core as appropriate)

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 47e9570. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are yaml).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Ingest Tool loads about 466 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 21 tokens; SKILL.md has 155 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~21
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~466

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Tool Ingestion — Code to Skill Converter

Read source code of any external tool and generate a proper AuthorAgent SKILL.md file.

Process

  1. Read the source code provided by the user (file path or pasted code)
  2. Analyze the tool:
    • Purpose and domain (writing, formatting, marketing, analysis)
    • Inputs: arguments, config files, stdin
    • Outputs: files, stdout, formats
    • Language: Python, JavaScript, HTML, etc.
    • CLI interface and flags (if any)
    • Dependencies required
  3. Generate SKILL.md with:
    • YAML frontmatter: name, description, triggers, permissions
    • How the tool works
    • Input/output documentation
    • Example commands or workflows
    • How AuthorAgent should invoke or reference it
  4. Save to skills/author/[tool-name]/SKILL.md (or marketing/core as appropriate)

SKILL.md Format

Rules

  • NEVER invent capabilities the tool doesn't have
  • Note required dependencies (Python version, npm packages)
  • If the tool is GUI-only, note it requires manual interaction
  • If the tool has a CLI, document exact command syntax
  • Keep triggers practical — words users would actually type
  • Name must be kebab-case, unique, and descriptive
