What it does

Rule Catalog is an agent skill from athola/claude-night-market. Browse hookify rule catalog. Use when installing pre-built rules or browsing categories. Do not use when writing custom rules; use hookify:writing-rules.

Its SKILL.md is about 1.6k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 23 other files (for example `rules/documentation/require-slop-scan-for-docs.md`, `rules/documentation/warn-slop-in-markdown.md` and `rules/git/block-destructive-git.md`).

It sits in Agent Workflows, covering Hooks and plugins and Brand voice and tone. It works with Python and Git. The repository describes itself as: 23 Claude Code plugins: TDD enforcement hooks, git/PR workflows, spec-driven development, code review, project lifecycle, fix-from-error, maintenance automation, context… The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Installing pre-built rules
  • Browsing categories
  • Writing custom rules
  • Use hookify:writing-rules

Example prompts

  • “/rule-catalog”

Requirements

  • Python 3

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Read the rule from skills/rule-catalog/rules/git/block-force-push.md
  2. Write it to .claude/hookify.block-force-push.local.md
  3. Confirm installation

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9f3eb00. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • python3
    • python

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Rule Catalog loads about 1.6k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 42 tokens; SKILL.md has 439 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~42
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.6k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Creating Pull Requests for New Rules

To add rules to the catalog:

  1. Create rule file in appropriate category
  2. Follow naming convention: kebab-case.md
  3. Include detailed message with alternatives
  4. Test thoroughly before submitting
  5. Update this SKILL.md catalog table
  • Skill(hookify:writing-rules) - Create custom rules
  • /hookify:list - Show installed rules
  • /hookify:configure - Manage installed rules

Exit Criteria

  • Installed rule file exists at .claude/hookify.<rule-name>.local.md with enabled: true in its frontmatter
  • Rule activates without requiring a session restart; verified by triggering a matching pattern and observing the warn or block response
  • When installing via Python script, exit code 0 is returned and the rule file is present at the target path
  • Rule file structure matches the catalog source at skills/rule-catalog/rules/<category>/<rule>.md; no fields silently dropped during installation
