What it does

Bump Version is an agent skill from arindamxd/camerax-android. Increments versionCodeOffset for another Play upload of the same versionName, updates RELEASE.md shipping numbers, and prints Play Console release notes from git log since the previous upload. Use when the user says bump version, version bump, or bump the version.

Its SKILL.md is about 600 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Development, covering Changelog and release notes. It works with Git. The repository describes itself as: A Play Store camera app showing Jetpack CameraX APIs in Kotlin — install it, use it, copy the patterns. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • The user says bump version
  • Bump the version

Example prompts

  • “Use the bump-version skill to increment versionCodeOffset for another Play upload of the same versionName, updates RELEASE.md shipping numbers, and…”
  • “/bump-version”

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Bump versionCodeOffset
  2. Changelog range
  3. Print Play Console notes

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 7c36352. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Bump Version loads about 603 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 69 tokens; SKILL.md has 223 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~69
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~603

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Bump version (Play upload)

Trigger phrases: bump version, version bump, bump the version. Run immediately. Do not ask offset vs name unless they named major/minor/patch.

Same workflow as .cursor/rules/bump-version.mdc.

1. Bump versionCodeOffset

Same versionName (another Play upload of X.Y.Z):

  1. In root build.gradle.kts, increment ext["versionCodeOffset"] by 1.
  2. versionCode = major * 10000 + minor * 100 + patch + offset (example: 1.7.0 + offset 5 → 10705).
  3. Update RELEASE.md Current shipping target and Play Console Version lines. Do not rewrite “Last local verification” as if those checks already ran on the new code.

Only bump versionMajor / versionMinor / versionPatch (and reset offset to 0) if the user explicitly asks for a new X.Y.Z.

Do not commit unless asked.

2. Changelog range

Previous Play upload = the most recent commit whose subject is exactly version bumped before this bump (if HEAD is already that commit, use the one before it). Fallback: newest git tag (git tag --sort=-v:refname).

sh
git log --format='%s' <previous>..HEAD

Skip subjects: version bumped, merge commits, docs-only, agent/DI/build-only churn.

3. Print Play Console notes

After the bump, reply with:

  1. One line: versionName / new versionCode / new offset.
  2. Raw bullets: remaining git subjects (changelog source).
  3. Paste-ready Play notes:
Release name: {versionName}

<en-US>
What's new in CameraX {versionName}

• {user-facing highlight}
• {user-facing highlight}
• Stability and performance improvements
</en-US>

User-facing highlights only (4–6 bullets: modes, capture, gallery, Settings, UI). Skip architecture / DI / agent docs / build-only churn. End with a stability bullet when the range includes fixes. Do not invent features. Format details: AGENTS.md and .cursor/rules/play-console-release-notes.mdc.
