What it does

Session Mode is an agent skill from Arch1eSUN/Arcgentic. Use when a project has not yet stored session mode, when a user asks for complete arcgentic workflow execution, or when role identity handoff prompts are needed.

Its SKILL.md is about 500 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Agent Workflows. The repository describes itself as: Mechanical plan/dev/self-audit/external-audit gates for AI coding agents, with a configurable role-routing topology engine, an MCP-UI live status panel, and native-tooling Claude… The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • A project has not yet stored session mode
  • A user asks for complete arcgentic workflow execution
  • Role identity handoff prompts are needed

Example prompts

  • “/session-mode”

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Read .agentic-rounds/state.yaml and the round handoff.
  2. If project.session_mode.mode is already set, treat it as fact and skip the
  3. If no project-level mode exists, generate a recommendation
  4. Print recommendation, confidence, reasons, suggested role identities, and override
  5. Print only the identity handoff prompt needed for the next role
  6. For V2 Codex-native orchestration, generate the fixed-role host plan instead

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 8539955. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Session Mode loads about 500 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 44 tokens; SKILL.md has 184 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~44
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~500

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

session-mode
description
Use when a project has not yet stored session mode, when a user asks for complete arcgentic workflow execution, or when role identity handoff prompts are needed.

session-mode

Resolves project-level single-session vs multi-session execution and prints role-specific identity prompts. Once project.session_mode is present in .agentic-rounds/state.yaml, do not ask again per round.

Workflow

  1. Read .agentic-rounds/state.yaml and the round handoff.

  2. If project.session_mode.mode is already set, treat it as fact and skip the recommendation/choice step.

  3. If no project-level mode exists, generate a recommendation:

    bash
    arcgentic session-mode recommend \
      --round <round-id> \
      --handoff <handoff-path>
  4. Print recommendation, confidence, reasons, suggested role identities, and override instructions before asking the user to choose.

  5. Print only the identity handoff prompt needed for the next role:

    bash
    arcgentic session-mode prompt \
      --round <round-id> \
      --handoff <handoff-path> \
      --mode multi-session \
      --role developer

V1 valid roles: developer, auditor, closeout.

  6. For V2 Codex-native orchestration, generate the fixed-role host plan instead of per-round role prompts:

    bash
    arcgentic v2-session-plan \
      --state .agentic-rounds/state.yaml \
      --host codex

V2 session roles are fixed to Orchestrator, Planner, Developer, and Auditor. close-round is an orchestrator-owned command, not a session role.

Boundaries

  • Do not enter developer work before the mode gate is resolved.
  • Do not re-ask the user when project-level mode is already stored.
  • Do not claim single-session auto-audit when dispatch transport is unavailable.
  • In V1, developer, auditor, and closeout identity prompts must remain separate.
  • In V2, keep exactly four fixed role sessions and never create round-numbered role threads.

Can I use Session Mode in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Arch1eSUN/Arcgentic --skill session-mode -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/session-mode, .gemini/skills/session-mode, .github/skills/session-mode and .opencode/skills/session-mode in your project.

What does Session Mode need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Session Mode is instructions for the agent only.

Does Session Mode access the network?
