What it does

Self Iteration is an agent skill from anomalyco/browser-control. Dogfood a project-owned tool in a realistic user flow and evaluate the agent experience. Use when the user asks to dogfood or self-iterate, or when testing or evaluating a tool built by this project.

Its SKILL.md is about 490 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering UX design. The repository describes itself as: Local browser driver for trusted agents: control your existing Chromium browser through a small extension and local relay. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • The user asks to dogfood
  • Evaluating a tool built by this project

Example prompts

  • “/self-iteration”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 11d04a5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Self Iteration loads about 494 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 54 tokens; SKILL.md has 262 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~54
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~494

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Self-Iteration

Run a field test: use the tool to complete a real task for the user while observing the agent experience. The task, not the evaluation, remains the primary goal.

Workflow

  1. Agree on a realistic task and its safety boundary. If the user has no task, suggest one that exercises the tool's main workflow without destructive or irreversible actions.

Completion criterion: the user and agent share a concrete task, expected outcome, and boundary for actions requiring confirmation.

  1. Perform the task through the public interface an agent is expected to use. Prefer the shortest natural path; do not manufacture edge cases or switch to internal interfaces merely to make progress.

While working, note only observed evidence:

  • extra round trips or context needed to choose the next action
  • slow operations or avoidable waiting
  • confusing names, shapes, defaults, errors, or documentation
  • failures, missing capabilities, and recovery quality
  • behavior that made the flow unusually direct or token-efficient

Completion criterion: the user's task is complete or a specific blocker has been identified, and each finding is tied to an observed step in the flow.

  1. Give the user the task result first. Then report the field-test verdict:
  • bugs, with reproduction evidence and impact
  • concrete improvement suggestions, separated from bugs
  • strengths worth preserving
  • an explicit "went well" verdict when no change is justified

Do not modify the tool in response to findings during the field test. Surface findings first so the user can choose what to implement.

Completion criterion: the user receives both the useful task outcome and a concise, evidence-based verdict on the tool experience.

When should I use Self Iteration?

Self Iteration fits situations like: the user asks to dogfood; evaluating a tool built by this project.

How do I install Self Iteration in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add anomalyco/browser-control --skill self-iteration -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.opencode/skills/self-iteration in anomalyco/browser-control) into .claude/skills/self-iteration in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Self Iteration in Codex?

Run `npx skills add anomalyco/browser-control --skill self-iteration -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.opencode/skills/self-iteration in anomalyco/browser-control) into .agents/skills/self-iteration in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Self Iteration in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add anomalyco/browser-control --skill self-iteration -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/self-iteration, .gemini/skills/self-iteration, .github/skills/self-iteration and .opencode/skills/self-iteration in your project.

What does Self Iteration need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Self Iteration is instructions for the agent only.

Does Self Iteration access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Self Iteration safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Self Iteration use?

Self Iteration is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Self Iteration use?

About 494 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Self Iteration?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Self Iteration: Impeccable (bestofjs/bestofjs, 3.1k stars), Interface Design for Dashboards and Apps (holaboss-ai/holaOS, 11k stars), Animate (growupanand/ConvoForm, 101 stars) and Migrate Content Ia (docker/docs, 4.7k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
