What it does

Test Skill is an agent skill from Alex8791-cyber/cognithor. Extended diagnostic skill that validates the full Cognithor skill lifecycle — SkillRegistry scanning, keyword matching (exact + fuzzy at 70% threshold), and async execution. Use when testing skill discovery, debugging keyword matching accuracy, validating the SkillRegistry scan cycle, or verifying async execute() behavior.

Its SKILL.md is about 500 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 4 other files (for example `__init__.py`, `manifest.json` and `skill.py`).

It sits in Development, covering Skill management. The repository describes itself as: Cognithor · Agent OS: Local-first autonomous agent operating system. 19 LLM providers, 18 channels, 145 MCP tools, 6-tier memory, Agent Packs marketplace, zero telemetry. Python… The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Testing skill discovery
  • Debugging keyword matching accuracy
  • Validating the SkillRegistry scan cycle
  • Verifying async execute() behavior

Example prompts

  • “/test-skill”

Requirements

  • Python 3

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Trigger the skill — Cognithor must match via keyword similarity
  2. Verify registration — confirm the skill appears in the registry
  3. Check keyword matching — the SkillRegistry uses exact match (case-insensitive) then fuzzy match (70% threshold). Verify the input routes…
  4. Inspect the response — execute() returns
  5. Confirm async execution — the skill runs via async def execute(self, params), so verify no blocking calls appear in logs

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 78212af. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships script files (Python), which the agent can run.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Test Skill loads about 500 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 84 tokens; SKILL.md has 150 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~84
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~500

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Use when testing skill discovery, debugging keyword matching accuracy, validating the SkillRegistry scan cycle, or verifying async execute() behavior.

Test Skill

Extended diagnostic that validates the full skill lifecycle: directory scan → SkillRegistry registration → keyword matching → async execute().

Steps

  1. Trigger the skill — Cognithor must match via keyword similarity:
    cognithor test_skill <eingabe>
  2. Verify registration — confirm the skill appears in the registry:
User > Zeige alle registrierten Skills
    # Expected: test_skill listed with NAME="test_skill", VERSION="0.1.0"
  3. Check keyword matching — the SkillRegistry uses exact match (case-insensitive) then fuzzy match (70% threshold). Verify the input routes to this skill, not the sibling test skill
  4. Inspect the response — execute() returns:
    json
    {"status": "ok", "result": "TODO"}
  5. Confirm async execution — the skill runs via async def execute(self, params), so verify no blocking calls appear in logs

Example

User > cognithor test_skill Prüfe den Lifecycle
Cognithor > {"status": "ok", "result": "TODO"}

# Success: skill was discovered, matched, and executed asynchronously

Troubleshooting

SymptomCauseFix
Routes to test insteadFuzzy match overlapUse the full slug test_skill to force exact match
ModuleNotFoundError__init__.py missingVerify skills/test_skill/__init__.py exists
Timeout on executeEvent loop blockedCheck for synchronous calls in skill.py

Notes

Diagnostic-only skill — "result": "TODO" is intentional. Differs from test by validating keyword disambiguation and the full scan-to-execute lifecycle.
