chart-to-driveStandardized workflow for uploading local chart PNGs to Google Drive and making them available for insertion into Google Docs and Slides.
Chart To Drive is an agent skill from ai-analyst-lab/ai-analyst. Standardized workflow for uploading local chart PNGs to Google Drive and making them available for insertion into Google Docs and Slides. Use this skill whenever you need to insert charts into Google Docs or Google Slides, when the google-doc-creator or google-slides-creator agents need chart URLs, when building presentations or reports with embedded visualizations, when user asks to "upload charts", "add images to the doc", "put charts in slides", "make charts available for Google", or any time you have chart…
Its SKILL.md is about 1.4k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Documents & Office, covering Cloud office suites and Slides and decks. It works with Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Workspace and Google Drive. The repository describes itself as: AI Product Analyst — Claude Code-powered data analysis toolkit. The licence is MIT.
3 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 52c0744. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are python).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
drive.google.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Chart To Drive loads about 1.4k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 254 tokens; SKILL.md has 545 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from ai-analyst-lab/ai-analyst at commit 52c0744, republished under its MIT licence (© ai-analyst-lab). 545 words, ~1,393 tokens.

One standard flow for upload, permissions, and URL construction, with no public file hosts involved.
Automatically whenever:
google-doc-creator or google-slides-creator agent needs chart URLsWhen NOT to use this skill:
mcp__google-docs__upload_image_to_drive directly)Identify all chart PNGs that need uploading. Standard location: outputs/charts/.
import os
chart_dir = "outputs/charts"
charts = [(f, os.path.join(chart_dir, f)) for f in sorted(os.listdir(chart_dir)) if f.endswith('.png')]Use the Google Docs MCP upload_image_to_drive tool with the LOCAL file path. It
uploads straight to the user's Drive and sets just enough link access for the
Docs/Slides APIs to fetch the image. No public file host is involved at any point;
never route charts through one (the analysis may contain confidential numbers).
for each (filename, filepath) in charts:
mcp__google-docs__upload_image_to_drive(image_path=filepath)
# Returns the Drive file ID; record it in the chart mapIf that tool is unavailable, upload with the Drive API from Python using local
credentials (files().create with MediaFileUpload), then set reader link access.
Optional: Create a "{dataset_name} - Charts" folder first and pass its ID as the parent so uploads stay organized.
Return a mapping of chart filename to both URL formats:
chart_map = {
"01_height_crossover.png": {
"drive_id": "1abc...",
"drive_url": "https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1abc...&export=download"
},
...
}For Google Docs: Use drive_url (permanent, works with insert_doc_image)
For Google Slides: Use drive_url (permanent, works with createImage)
| Target | URL Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Google Docs insert_doc_image | https://drive.google.com/uc?id={ID}&export=download | Must be public |
Google Slides createImage | https://drive.google.com/uc?id={ID}&export=download | Must be public |
| Direct Drive view | https://drive.google.com/file/d/{ID}/view | Not for API insertion |
Drive only, always. Never upload charts to public file hosts (tmpfiles, imgur, postimages, or similar); the user's Drive is the only image host.
Set public permissions immediately. Google Docs/Slides API cannot access
private Drive files. The MCP upload_image_to_drive tool automatically sets
public access — no additional permission call needed.
Batch uploads in a single Python script. Don't make separate Bash calls per chart — one script handles all uploads efficiently.
Print the chart map. Always output the full filename → drive_id mapping so subsequent agents can reference charts by name.
Check for existing uploads. Before re-uploading, search Drive for files with the same name in the expected folder. If you find existing files with matching names uploaded in the last 24 hours, reuse those Drive IDs instead of creating duplicates. Only re-upload if the file is missing or very old.
If the MCP upload tool fails or is missing:
files().create + MediaFileUpload), then set reader link access.If a Drive upload returns "permission denied" or "authentication failed":

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Chart To Drive is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: Python 3.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. In commands or code: drive.google.com; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Chart To Drive is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.4k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 5.6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
