wiki-cliDetects and uses the official Obsidian command-line interface for read-only vault access, falling back to direct file reads, while all mutations stay on a separate transaction core.
The skill resolves its own installed product root rather than the vault or current working directory, so every reference it links stays anchored correctly regardless of which vault is open. Detection runs a peek probe against the selected vault and trusts only the available.cli.usable field, not mere presence or a plain exit status, because a supported CLI can still be unusable if the Obsidian app is not running or command-line access is disabled; filesystem reads are the portable fallback whenever that is the case.
Reads run the official CLI's own commands from inside the selected vault so Obsidian resolves the right workspace, covering note reads, searches, and, once the detector reports the CLI ready, backlinks, tags or Bases results. Absolute note paths, traversal and symlinks resolving outside the selected vault are rejected outright, and when the CLI is not ready the skill reads files under the vault directly and searches with rg instead.
Mutations are explicitly out of scope here: create, write, append, move, rename and delete commands are never run through this CLI and never replaced with direct filesystem writes, because any real knowledge or configuration change must go through one reviewed transaction in a separate, portable core instead. A refreshed transport snapshot is only persisted to .vault-meta/transport.json when the user or a setup workflow specifically asks for one.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 32ac5a0. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Obsidian CLI Read Transport loads about 762 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 81 tokens; SKILL.md has 327 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/wiki-cli/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Use this skill only to detect transport and read or search a selected vault.
The official executable is obsidian; binary presence alone does not prove it
is usable.
Resolve the installed product root from this skill's own location, not from the vault or current working directory:
PRODUCT_ROOT=/absolute/path/to/installed/claude-obsidian
DETECT_TRANSPORT="$PRODUCT_ROOT/scripts/detect-transport.sh"
test -f "$DETECT_TRANSPORT"Every ../wiki/references/ link in this file resolves the same way, relative
to this skill's own directory under $PRODUCT_ROOT, never relative to the
selected vault's wiki/ directory.
Probe without persisting host state:
bash "$DETECT_TRANSPORT" --peek --vault "$VAULT"Trust available.cli.usable, not merely present or exit status. A supported
CLI can still be unavailable because the Obsidian app is not running, command
line access is disabled, or its response is an error. Use filesystem reads as
the portable fallback.
Persist a refreshed .vault-meta/transport.json only when the user or setup
workflow asks for a transport snapshot:
bash "$DETECT_TRANSPORT" --force --vault "$VAULT"That file is derived runtime configuration, not knowledge content. Preserve a
valid manual_override recorded by the detector.
Run official CLI commands from the selected vault so Obsidian resolves the correct workspace. Confirm supported syntax with the installed CLI before relying on optional commands. Typical read-only forms are:
(cd "$VAULT" && obsidian read path="$NOTE")
(cd "$VAULT" && obsidian search query="$QUERY")Use read-only commands for backlinks, tags, or Bases results only when the
detector reports the CLI ready. Otherwise read files under $VAULT directly
and use rg for search. Reject absolute note arguments, traversal, symlinks, or
resolved paths outside the selected vault.
Do not use CLI create, write, append, property-set, daily-append, move, rename, or delete commands. Do not replace those commands with direct filesystem writes. Any knowledge or configuration change must be expressed as one reviewed transaction through the portable core; see operation transactions.
Transport choice never changes mutation semantics. The CLI is an optional read surface, not a lock manager, transaction engine, or Git checkpoint mechanism.
Observe actual capability, think about the least complex read transport, verify that every resolved path stays in the vault, and accept filesystem fallback when the CLI is not ready.

Obsidian CLI Read Transport fits situations like: reading or searching an Obsidian vault without risking a write; checking whether the Obsidian CLI is actually usable before relying on it; looking up backlinks or tags for a note through the official CLI.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Obsidian CLI Read Transport needs the command-line tools its instructions call (bash). Our summary lists: The official Obsidian CLI, for the fast path; Filesystem access to the vault, as a fallback.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Obsidian CLI Read Transport is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 762 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
