What it does

Gemini is an agent skill from agentic-box/owlex. Start a Google Gemini CLI session with 1M context for large codebase analysis

Its SKILL.md is about 220 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Development, covering Codebase onboarding. It works with Google Gemini. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Codebase onboarding

Example prompts

  • “/gemini”

Requirements

  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): mcp__owlex__start_gemini_session, mcp__owlex__resume_gemini_session

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Take the user's prompt from: $ARGUMENTS
  2. If no argument provided, ask what they want Gemini to help with
  3. Determine if new or continuation
  4. Return immediately with the task_id
  5. Tell the user

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 05f0091. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • mcp__owlex__start_gemini_session
    • mcp__owlex__resume_gemini_session

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • gemini

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Gemini loads about 220 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 21 tokens; SKILL.md has 86 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~21
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~220

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Instructions

  1. Take the user's prompt from: $ARGUMENTS
  2. If no argument provided, ask what they want Gemini to help with
  3. Determine if new or continuation:
    • New topic: Use start_gemini_session
    • Follow-up: Use resume_gemini_session
  4. Return immediately with the task_id
  5. Tell the user:
    • "Gemini started (task: <task_id>)"
    • "Check results with: /gemini-result <task_id>"

Do NOT call wait_for_task. Return immediately.

Usage

  • /gemini Analyze the entire codebase structure
  • /gemini Summarize all API endpoints

Questions about Gemini

What does Gemini do?

Start a Google Gemini CLI session with 1M context for large codebase analysis. Gemini is an agent skill from agentic-box/owlex.

When should I use Gemini?

Gemini fits situations like: tasks that involve Codebase onboarding.

How do I install Gemini in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add agentic-box/owlex --skill gemini -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/gemini in agentic-box/owlex) into .claude/skills/gemini in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Gemini in Codex?

Run `npx skills add agentic-box/owlex --skill gemini -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/gemini in agentic-box/owlex) into .agents/skills/gemini in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Gemini in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add agentic-box/owlex --skill gemini -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/gemini, .gemini/skills/gemini, .github/skills/gemini and .opencode/skills/gemini in your project.

What does Gemini need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Gemini needs the command-line tools its instructions call (gemini). Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: mcp__owlex__start_gemini_session, mcp__owlex__resume_gemini_session.

Does Gemini access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Gemini safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Gemini use?

Gemini is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Gemini use?

About 220 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 880 characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Gemini?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Gemini: Gemini (giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit, 355 stars), Gemini CLI (secondsky/claude-skills, 227 stars), Codebase Exploration (giancarloerra/SocratiCode, 3.3k stars) and Codebase Knowledge Graph Q&A (Egonex-AI/Understand-Anything, 85k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Gemini?

agentic-box (a GitHub organization) maintains it in agentic-box/owlex, which has 139 GitHub stars. The repository holds 4 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on March 15, 2026.
