What it does
Android Add Module is an agent skill from Adyen/adyen-android. Add a new Gradle module and wire in optional external SDKs.
Its SKILL.md is about 990 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Development. It works with Android and Gradle. The repository describes itself as: Adyen Android Drop-in and Components. The licence is MIT.

Workflow steps
5 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 475ca6a. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Tool permissions
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Runs code
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are gradle, proguard and kotlin).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Network
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Credentials
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Context cost
Android Add Module loads about 988 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 20 tokens; SKILL.md has 491 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Always· name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~20
When it runs· the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~988
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
Safety
Auto-check passed
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Add a new Gradle module and wire in optional external SDKs.
android-add-module
Add a new Gradle module to the Adyen Android SDK with the right publishing and dependency setup.
Usage
Invoke this skill when creating a new module (for example a new payment method or an internal helper module), or when an existing module needs to depend on an optional external SDK.
Steps
1. Decide whether the module is published
Published — anything merchants integrate, such as a new payment method. It uses the checkout.android.library convention plugin plus a checkoutPublishing { id, name, description } block, and gets an api/<module>.api dump file. Compare with card/build.gradle.
Not published — internal tooling and test support. These skip both: test-core uses the plain android.library plugin, and lint is a Kotlin JVM module.
Copy the Gradle setup from the existing module closest to what you are adding, then diff the two files and account for every difference. Add the module to settings.gradle, keeping the list alphabetical.
2. Register a published module elsewhere
A published module is not done when its own build.gradle is right — two lists outside it have to know about it:
Documentation. Add dokka(project(':<module>')) to the dependencies block at the bottom of the root build.gradle. Every published module has an entry there, so a missing one means the module is silently absent from the generated API documentation.
Drop-in. If merchants reach the payment method through Drop-in, add api project(':<module>') to drop-in/build.gradle so it ships with Drop-in. Shared infrastructure such as core, ui-core and components-core, and action modules such as redirect and await, arrive transitively and are not listed.

3. Handle optional external SDKs with compileOnly
Some modules wrap a third-party SDK: 3DS2, Twint, WeChat Pay, Cash App Pay, Google Pay, card scanning. Merchants who use standalone components should not be forced to pull these in, so the dependent module declares them as compileOnly and tolerates their absence at runtime.
Ask during planning whether the new module needs this treatment — it is not automatic.
gradle
// In the dependent module, e.g. action-core/build.gradle
compileOnly project(':3ds2')
Because the classes are absent at runtime, R8 warns about the missing references. Suppress that in the dependent module's consumer-rules.pro so merchant builds stay clean:
proguard
-dontwarn com.adyen.checkout.adyen3ds2.**
4. Guard every call into an optional SDK
Never touch a compileOnly type directly. Wrap the call so a missing class degrades gracefully instead of throwing NoClassDefFoundError:
kotlin
import com.adyen.checkout.core.common.helper.runCompileOnly
val sdkVersion = runCompileOnly { ThreeDS2Service.INSTANCE.sdkVersion }.getOrNull()
The optional type must not appear outside the runCompileOnly block — not in a signature, a field, or a local variable — or the JVM resolves it before the guard runs. See card/src/main/java/com/adyen/checkout/card/internal/util/CardScannerWrapper.kt for the pattern and the reason.
For a boolean availability check, use checkCompileOnly.
5. Verify
Run the android-check skill (.agents/skills/android-check/SKILL.md) for the new module and for every module that depends on it.
For an optional SDK, also verify the fallback path: the dependent module must compile and behave sensibly when the optional module is absent.
Important
A new published module is a public API addition — apply the android-public-api-change skill (.agents/skills/android-public-api-change/SKILL.md) to whatever it exposes.
A new external library, as opposed to a new project module, goes through the android-add-dependency skill (.agents/skills/android-add-dependency/SKILL.md) first.

When should I use Android Add Module?
Android Add Module fits situations like: development work in your project.
How do I install Android Add Module in Claude Code?
Run `npx skills add Adyen/adyen-android --skill android-add-module -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/android-add-module in Adyen/adyen-android) into .claude/skills/android-add-module in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
How do I install Android Add Module in Codex?
Run `npx skills add Adyen/adyen-android --skill android-add-module -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/android-add-module in Adyen/adyen-android) into .agents/skills/android-add-module in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Can I use Android Add Module in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Adyen/adyen-android --skill android-add-module -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/android-add-module, .gemini/skills/android-add-module, .github/skills/android-add-module and .opencode/skills/android-add-module in your project.
What does Android Add Module need to run?
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Android Add Module is instructions for the agent only.
Does Android Add Module access the network?
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Is Android Add Module safe to install?
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
What licence does Android Add Module use?
Android Add Module is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
How many tokens does Android Add Module use?
About 988 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
