workflow-triggeringStart AEM Workflows on AEM as a Cloud Service using all available triggering mechanisms.
Workflow Triggering is an agent skill from adobe/skills. Start AEM Workflows on AEM as a Cloud Service using all available triggering mechanisms. Use when starting workflows manually via the Timeline UI, programmatically via WorkflowSession.startWorkflow(), via the HTTP Workflow API, through Manage Publication, or passing initial metadata and payload to a workflow instance.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.8k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 11 other files, including reference files (for example `references/workflow-foundation/README.md`, `references/workflow-foundation/api-reference.md` and `references/workflow-foundation/architecture-overview.md`).
It works with Adobe Experience Manager. The repository describes itself as: Adobe Skills for Agents. The licence is Apache-2.0.
4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cbc9952. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
curlFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Workflow Triggering loads about 1.8k tokens when it runs, and up to ~9k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 85 tokens; SKILL.md has 409 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

The workflow starts with the selected item as JCR_PATH payload and the current user as initiator.
AEM creates a cq:WorkflowContentPackage containing all selected pages as the workflow payload.
The payload is a JCR_PATH pointing to the generated package node under /var/workflow/packages
(legacy: /etc/workflow/packages) — useful to know when debugging payload issues, since the
payload is the package node, not the individual pages.
@Component(service = MyWorkflowService.class)
public class MyWorkflowService {
@Reference
private ResourceResolverFactory resolverFactory;
public String startWorkflow(String payloadPath, String modelId,
Map<String, Object> initialMeta) throws Exception {
Map<String, Object> auth = Collections.singletonMap(
ResourceResolverFactory.SUBSERVICE, "workflow-starter");
try (ResourceResolver resolver = resolverFactory.getServiceResourceResolver(auth)) {
WorkflowSession wfSession = resolver.adaptTo(WorkflowSession.class);
WorkflowModel model = wfSession.getModel(modelId);
WorkflowData data = wfSession.newWorkflowData("JCR_PATH", payloadPath);
// Set initial metadata
MetaDataMap meta = data.getMetaDataMap();
if (initialMeta != null) {
initialMeta.forEach(meta::put);
}
Workflow instance = wfSession.startWorkflow(model, data);
return instance.getId();
}
}
}Model ID format: /var/workflow/models/my-workflow (the runtime path, not the design-time path)
The API is rooted at /var/workflow/instances. Do not POST to /api/workflow/instances —
no workflow servlet is mounted there, so the Sling default POST servlet silently writes stray JCR
nodes and returns a misleading 2xx without starting any workflow.

Start AEM Workflows on AEM as a Cloud Service using all available triggering mechanisms. Workflow Triggering is an agent skill from adobe/skills. Start AEM Workflows on AEM as a Cloud Service using all available triggering mechanisms.
Workflow Triggering fits situations like: starting workflows manually via the Timeline UI; programmatically via WorkflowSession.startWorkflow(); via the HTTP Workflow API; through Manage Publication.
Run `npx skills add adobe/skills --skill workflow-triggering -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/aem/cloud-service/skills/aem-workflow/workflow-triggering in adobe/skills) into .claude/skills/workflow-triggering in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add adobe/skills --skill workflow-triggering -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/aem/cloud-service/skills/aem-workflow/workflow-triggering in adobe/skills) into .agents/skills/workflow-triggering in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add adobe/skills --skill workflow-triggering -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/workflow-triggering, .gemini/skills/workflow-triggering, .github/skills/workflow-triggering and .opencode/skills/workflow-triggering in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Workflow Triggering needs the command-line tools its instructions call (curl).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Workflow Triggering is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.8k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 7.2k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Workflow Triggering: Sanity Migration (sanity-io/agent-toolkit, 187 stars), Content Management Systems (github/awesome-copilot, 40k stars), App Builder UI Scaffolder (NeverSight/learn-skills.dev, 216 stars) and Authoring Analysis (majiayu000/claude-skill-registry, 666 stars).
