At a glance

Finds, inspects, downloads and uploads Google Drive files from the command line with aai-cli, including exports of Docs, Sheets and Slides, and read-only sharing checks.

  • Finding a file or folder in Google Drive by name and getting its metadata
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Downloading a Google Doc, Sheet or Slides deck as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx
  • Checking who a Drive file is shared with

What it does

This skill drives Google Drive through aai-cli drive. The agent first confirms the active profile or passes --profile; Drive profiles are ordinary Google REST profiles using bearer-token authentication, the same shape as the Gmail, Calendar and Sheets ones. It starts from files list or folders list to turn a name into a file ID, then uses files get for metadata and files download for content, with --parent and --drive-id to scope a listing to a folder or shared drive.

Downloads are written to the path given by --output and never printed. Google-native files have no bytes of their own, so Docs are exported as .docx, Sheets as .xlsx, Slides as .pptx and other native types as PDF, with --mime-type to pick another conversion. Google caps exports at 10 MB, which shows up only as an error. Output is JSON on stdout and structured JSON errors on stderr.

The skill is read-first: files upload, which creates a new Drive file from a local file, is the only write. Nothing renames, moves, trashes, deletes or changes sharing, and permissions are read-only so an agent cannot widen who can see a file. Cell-level work on Sheets belongs to the aai-cli sheets commands instead.

When your agent uses it

  • Finding a file or folder in Google Drive by name and getting its metadata
  • Downloading a Google Doc, Sheet or Slides deck as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx
  • Checking who a Drive file is shared with
  • Uploading a local file to Drive as a new file

Example prompts

  • “Find the Q3 planning folder in Drive and list the files in it.”
  • “Download the Google Doc called Launch Checklist as a .docx into ./exports.”
  • “Who is the budget spreadsheet shared with? Check its permissions.”
  • “Upload ./reports/summary.pdf to the Reports folder on the shared drive.”

Requirements

  • aai-cli with a configured Google profile using bearer-token authentication

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit df5e0a7. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

aai-cli Google Drive loads about 463 tokens when it runs, and up to ~4.8k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 59 tokens; SKILL.md has 244 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~59
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~463
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~4.8k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Use aai-cli to find Google Drive files and folders, read their metadata, download their content (including Google-native Docs, Sheets, and Slides), check who a file is shared with, and upload a local file back to Drive.

aai-cli Google Drive

Use this skill when working with Google Drive through aai-cli drive.

Before running commands, confirm the active profile or pass --profile. Drive profiles are ordinary Google REST profiles (provider = "google", auth_type = "bearer_token"), the same shape as Gmail, Calendar, and Sheets.

This arm is read-first. files upload is the one write: it creates a new Drive file from local bytes. Nothing here changes sharing, renames, moves, trashes, or deletes — and permissions is read-only on purpose, so an agent cannot widen who can see a file.

Start from files list (or folders list) to turn a name into a file ID, then files get for full metadata and files download for content. --parent <folder-id> scopes a listing to one folder; --drive-id <id> scopes it to one shared drive. Shared-drive content is included by default.

files download writes to --output and never prints content to stdout. Google-native documents have no bytes of their own, so they are exported instead: Docs to .docx, Sheets to .xlsx, Slides to .pptx, other native types to PDF. Pass --mime-type to choose a different conversion. Exports are capped at 10 MB by Google, and native documents report no size, so that cap only shows up as an error.

For cell-level work on a Google Sheet, use the aai-cli sheets commands instead of downloading the file.

Successful output is JSON on stdout. Errors are structured JSON on stderr. See the command reference for command shapes, flags, response notes, and examples.
