What it does

Orient is an agent skill from 0xenzyme/agent-harness. Inspect durable Agent Harness state and recommend the next public entry without mutation. Use for status, blockers, stale artifacts, or route questions. / 只读检查持久化状态与下一入口。

Its SKILL.md is about 600 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It sits in Productivity & Automation. The repository describes itself as: Adapter-driven control plane for coding-agent work: tasks, goals, run DAGs, gates, verification, and state sync. The licence is MIT.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 098b96d. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • node

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Orient loads about 604 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 44 tokens; SKILL.md has 266 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~44
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Harness Orient

Use this skill to inspect durable project-control state without mutation.

The current user instruction and project instructions take precedence over this skill. This skill supplies routing and safety boundaries; it does not add an approval requirement beyond the boundaries stated below.

  1. Read repo instructions and inspect config:
bash
node <plugin-root>/scripts/agent-harness.mjs config inspect --cwd <project> --json
node <plugin-root>/scripts/agent-harness.mjs orient next --cwd <project> --json

orient next prioritizes one nonterminal enforced checkpoint and emits its revision, control state, sole next action, pause reason, and prohibited actions. When multiple active checkpoints exist, select one explicitly with --run <run-dir>; never choose by timestamp or chat memory.

  1. Read the configured adapter, Goal index, bounded status, and only the relevant Spec/Goal/Run evidence. When the question concerns stale or growing artifacts, also run artifacts inspect --json and read Artifact Lifecycle.
  2. Reconcile those artifacts with newer explicit conversation decisions.
  3. Recommend one execution path before naming a public entry:
    • host-direct for ordinary clear work with no state-sync obligation;
    • host-direct-postflight when simple work only needs a bounded update to state that already existed;
    • durable-harness for recovery, audit, milestone acceptance, DAGs, multiple workers, persistent state sync, or high risk.
  4. Map durable and postflight paths to harness:execute; map setup, capture, and read-only state to harness:init, harness:intake, and harness:orient. Asking and shaping remain ordinary actions.
  5. A prepared enforced Run cannot be downgraded to postflight-only. Ordinary clear work should not invoke Harness merely because the plugin is installed.
  6. Proposal competition is an explicit advanced read-only technique for genuinely ambiguous or high-risk decisions, never a default route.

Do not mutate files, launch workers, create lifecycle artifacts, or perform delivery actions. Treat summaries and worker output as candidate evidence.

Questions about Orient

What does Orient do?

Inspect durable Agent Harness state and recommend the next public entry without mutation. Orient is an agent skill from 0xenzyme/agent-harness. Inspect durable Agent Harness state and recommend the next public entry without mutation.

When should I use Orient?

Orient fits situations like: stale artifacts; route questions.

How do I install Orient in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add 0xenzyme/agent-harness --skill orient -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/agent-harness/skills/orient in 0xenzyme/agent-harness) into .claude/skills/orient in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Orient in Codex?

Run `npx skills add 0xenzyme/agent-harness --skill orient -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (plugins/agent-harness/skills/orient in 0xenzyme/agent-harness) into .agents/skills/orient in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Orient in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add 0xenzyme/agent-harness --skill orient -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/orient, .gemini/skills/orient, .github/skills/orient and .opencode/skills/orient in your project.

What does Orient need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Orient needs the command-line tools its instructions call (node).

Does Orient access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Orient safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Orient use?

Orient is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Orient use?

About 604 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Orient?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Orient: Agent Browser (quran/quran.com-frontend-next, 1.9k stars), Process Inbox (telegramdesktop/tdesktop, 33k stars), Perform Task (telegramdesktop/tdesktop, 33k stars) and Brave Search (badlogic/pi-skills, 2.6k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
